Mrs. Abrams’ Kindergarten News Class for Jan 17-20
From Mrs. Abrams Desk
This week we will continue our Middle of the Year Developmental Reading Assessment and MPG Math and Reading Tests. These are the same tests given at the beginning of the year. I am excited to see how much growth and progress they have made in their knowledge and skills!
We have so many readers in our class that I have asked Mrs. Beth to begin helping with our blue Reading folders. Please return blue reading folders on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays.
Writers Workshop
We are continuing our Writing unit on Informational or “All About” books and writing about things they knew a lot about. It is so fun to see what each child is an expert in
Our class has students writing about; Snowmen, Snow, Teeth Pulling, Dinosaurs, Firemen, Coloring in the Lines, Skunks, Owls, Alabama Football, Utah, Sharks and Car Racing.
It is a JOY to watch them become so excited about writing.
And remember...we learn to write by writing!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Abrams
and that was my favorite part
Our class stopped working, bundled up in layers and went outside to watch the small white flakes dance to the ground.
But that was not my favorite part
I watch each student run around the playground dodging each flake as if they could catch them
But that was not my favorite part
I heard them scream when one landed on their coat arm and they exaimed the delicate flake
But that was not my favorite part
I watch them dance in and out like bees trying to find a spot to land
But that was not my favorite part
I asked them to join a circle with me and I taught them how snowflake is a different size and shape and you could never find two flakes that are the same
But that was not my favorite part
I told them to stand with their mouths open wide and try to catch one on their tongue
But that was not my favorite part
I told them to stop, stand, be super still, listen and wait to see if they could hear each snowflake fall to the ground
They stood like statues waiting and listening...
But that was not my favorite part
I couldn't wait to get home and tell my husband the story of how they had so much fun dancing in the snow that day.
He said " I bet the favorite part of your day was getting 20 five years to stand still in a circle to listen for snow"
"nope, that was not my favorite part"
"My favorite part of the day was when they told me they could hear the moment that one tiny snowflake touch the ground."
that was my favorite part

Wylie ISD 2017-18 Calendar Release
If you have not seen the updated calendar for next year, it is posted on the district website. There is a survey that you can give feedback regarding changes you would like to see.
For the most part, it is similar to this year's. Some changes that have occurred include:
- School will start August 21, the third Monday of August, opposed to the fourth Monday. The district applied for a waiver to do this.
- Christmas Break starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday, making the break for staff 13 days, opposed to the typical 16 days.
- They added a teacher work day following Christmas Break.
- Spring Break is now aligned with Dallas County and Collin County community colleges. So it is now the 2nd week of March.
Keep those box Tops coming. we are in a competition to see which class can bring in the most
