Virtual Academy Opportunity for 2022-2023
Recently, Fargo Public Schools made the decision to continue its Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year. For planning purposes, we need to gather information regarding interest for next year.
Elementary (grades K-5): The elementary model will stay the same through the North Dakota Center for Distance Education (NDCDE).
Secondary (grades 6-12): Secondary students will utilize a program called Edgenuity for core classes. This program, currently used at the high schools for credit recovery coursework, provides greater flexibility to meet students’ academic needs. In addition, secondary students will have the opportunity to meet via Zoom with an FPS instructor at scheduled times throughout the day. Elective courses will be offered through NDCDE at the secondary level.
Please complete the survey linked below to indicate your interest in attending the Fargo Public Schools Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFZEu1-qzxbzL7xn_Pq_txT2LnKXhJfURO9Kkx76Y7OtGGyg/viewform?usp=sf_link

4th Grade Parents- Orchestra
In 5th grade, special musical opportunities will be available for students that can change the course of their lives long term if they wish! ORCHESTRA is offered starting in 5th grade. Fargo Public Schools are very fortunate that members of this community strongly support the string program; involvement in orchestra continues to flourish in this area.
In orchestra, students will learn how to play one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, or bass. Orchestra students will have their smaller class orchestra during the school day and a large ensemble group before school one consistent day of the week. Orchestra students will have several performances throughout the school year. This is a year-long course and is a multi-year activity that students can continue through high school and beyond.
Registration Information
Here is what you will need to do for your child to begin orchestra in the fall of 2022:

Fargo South High School Activities Briefing
Fargo South Activities Briefing
Welcome to the sixth Fargo South Activities Briefing! This has been included in your newsletter to provide information on the value of kids participating in activities, the events happening at South High, and information on the great things that our South students are doing.
Did you know . . .
Activity participation is positively linked to better cognitive functioning in children (attention and working memory) (Bailey, 2006; Castelli, Hillman, Buck & Erwin, 2007; Sibley & Etnier, 2003), grades, test scores, school engagement, and education aspirations (Eccles & Barber, 1999; Marsh & Kleitman, 2002), reduced school dropout (Mahoney & Cairns, 1997), and a higher likelihood of college attendance (Barber, Eccles, & Stone, 2001).
Fargo South sponsors 24 varsity sports and over 30 groups, co-curricular activities, and co-curricular clubs. You can find the full list of opportunities at https://www.fargo.k12.nd.us/domain/138.
