CAMPUS HOLIDAY PARTY, 12/20/18
Message from Jeff and Yolanda
This is the season for giving. Many are giving back by donating a gift for the Angel Tree in the front lobby of the college, helping a student in the classroom, to being available to all volunteering opportunities that abound throughout the community and even our school.
The 7th Annual Fly-In Cruise-In is Saturday, February 3 at the Naples Municipal Airport. Last year, the Fly-In Cruise-In Committee was able to give $30,000 to the college for scholarships. This was possible with the assistance of a multitude of volunteers. Again this year, we need volunteers and there are a number of ways you can help:
- Attend one of the Fly-In Cruise-In Committee meetings right after school. Jack Izbicki sends out an email invitation.
- Volunteer your time the day of the event. We need volunteers in several key areas: car registrations, selling water, helping at the volunteer table, selling t- shirts, admissions gate, parking and supervising students, etc.
- Do you have a contact at a business? We need sponsors for the event and would appreciate the assistance in getting the sponsorship information out to the community.
If you are able to give your time or know a business contact, please reach out to Jack Izbicki at izbickJa@collierschools.com or Belynda Williams at williabe@collierschools.com

Pop Quiz: What’s more important to you, your content or your students?
This is a no-brainer, right? The “Student-Centric” motto at LWTHS/LWTC/ACE is not just lip service – it’s the core of our shared mission. We believe that learners, both young and old, are worth the investment of our time, of our efforts, and of our patience. We care deeply about them.
Next week, as we wish our students (and colleagues) Happy Holidays, it’s important to keep in mind that many, far too many, of the people we’ve come to know are going to struggle over Winter Break.
Some of our students will shiver on cold nights.
Some of our students will wonder who will let them couch surf next.
Some of our students will miss meals.
Some of our students will experience or witness neglect and abuse.
What can you do to help?
Three things:
1) Provide an avenue for your students to let you know they can use some help. How about placing a repurposed tissue box, like this, on your desk?
Or how about adding a test question like, “Are you worried about how things will go during Winter Break?”
2) For those students who do decide to let you know they are struggling, refer them to their counselor/workforce advisor. Act swiftly!
3) Provide a list of local food pantries on your classroom door. Here’s a great list.
To learn more, here’s an article that addresses this serious issue.
Finally, for those who missed it, here’s a brief video about structuring your classroom to maximize student collaboration and student voice.
Wishing you good health and good cheer.
