Fall Break - No School 10/12 thru 10/23
Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone that was able to support classrooms as they celebrate a successful nine weeks with a Fall party. It has been a tremendous first quarter! I appreciate you taking the time to be informed and partner with your child’s teacher for fall conferences. I’ve heard from many families and staff that virtual conferences were convenient and as helpful as in-person meetings.
Eagle Eye for Reading Mrs. Jimenez and I would like to know what students are reading over fall break. Snap a picture of reading fun and email us! We would love to share on social media.
Virtual Learners Returning On October 26th a portion of our virtual learners will be returning to in-person learning at WRE. Building maintenance, teachers, front office, and transportation have busy preparing. Their return will bring a renewed sense of welcome and excitement. Returning families have received information regarding our new building procedures and are thrilled to be coming back to the River!
October Character Trait October’s character trait is Courage: to choose what is good, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary. Following are a few conversation starters to continue the discussion at home.
How do you find the strength to stand up for what is right even when you find yourself standing alone?
Share a time that you showed courage.
How does it feel to practice kindness or gentleness? How does it feel if others are not doing the same? How can you model courageous kindness for others today?
Solar Energy As of October 7th, the solar system at White River Elementary is live and providing power to the building! We are proud to be reducing our carbon footprint and saving money from our operational funds.
In closing, I want to thank you for your continued support and wish you and your family good health and a wonderfully smooth first quarter. Enjoy a well deserved fall break!

Cafe News
Exciting news! Nutrition & Food Services is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a nationwide waiver due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that provides ALL students, regardless of socioeconomic status, FREE meals at school. Students can receive one FREE lunch and one FREE breakfast per school day. Meals must meet the existing USDA guidelines in order to be free. This includes an entrée, fruits, vegetables and milk. The meal must contain at least 3 components, one must be a fruit or vegetable. Ala carte/snack items (extra entrees, beverages, and snacks/drinks) will still be an additional charge. Menus can be found here. This program is available until December 31, 2020 or until funding runs out (whichever comes first). Free and reduced meal applications are still needed for textbook assistance. We hope to see your child(ren) in the lunch line!

Social Emotional Learning
What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?
SEL isn't new to Noblesville Schools and has been taught in most schools across the country for many years.
It's based on decades worth of research on what's best for kids and focuses on enhancing skills such as listening, sharing, collaborating, managing conflict respectfully, critical thinking and problem solving.
SEL leads to positive academic outcomes and employers report these skills are key to success in the workplace.
For more information, visit the SEL area on our website or contact Dana Nelson dana_nelson@nobl.k12.in.us or Michele Whaleymichele_whaley@nobl.k12.in.us
Nurse Notes
Let’s Fight the Flu Together!
Influenza is a contagious disease of the respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs) that can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and the worsening of other chronic health conditions. Flu symptoms may include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches. The best way to protect your family from new influenza strains is to get vaccinated each year.
The top five most virus-contaminated areas in the home are:
1. Telephones (have you cleaned your cell phone lately)
2. Appliances such as the refrigerator and microwave
3. Faucets
4. Light switch and door handles
5. TV remotes
Follow good health guidelines: eat right, exercise, and get plenty of rest to help boost your immunity to fight the effects of colds and flu. Wash hands frequently, do the elbow cough, and disinfect hot spots at school, work, and home.
Let’s make this a healthy month for us all
Counselor's Corner
When someone isn't being safe or respectful, it can sometimes be called "bullying." Bullying is when someone keeps being mean to you or someone else on purpose; it's one-sided and unfair! This month, our character trait is courage and October is National Anti-Bully Awareness Month! Mrs. Thomas, our school social worker and your school counselors, Mrs. Billick (Grades 1,3,5) and Mrs. Williams (K,2,4) are in classrooms teaching everyone the 3 R's: Recognize, Refuse and Report and how to use it in a situation where the person can't get it to stop! It takes a lot of COURAGE to use a strong, respectful voice to put a stop to bullying behavior. If you believe you or someone you know is getting bullied, report it to your safe and caring adult. For 5th graders, you may also use the Noblesville Speak UP app where it directly goes to the office! Remember, in our class and in our school we are Safe, Accountable, Organized and Respectful. We are looking for acts of kindness and SOARING behavior through our hallways, lunchroom, classrooms and playground!
Your support team,
Mrs. Billick, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Williams
