Art students are preparing their works for Richmond’s Fine Arts Festival, scheduled for Saturday, March 9th, 2019. We have a lot of work to do to make up for time lost from snow closings and other scheduled events, however, students are showing their skills and problem-solving ability as they work on complex assignments, such as self-portraits and still-life paintings inspired by Impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Several of the works from 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade classes are on display in the Chimborazo gallery, which is the hallway down from the office. One of our P.T.A. parents spotted a drawing and exclaimed, is that my daughter’s portrait? When a parent recognizes their child’s portrait, it shows the skill that the child has developed to create a likeness with a great deal of accuracy. Our gallery will also display the cumulus, cirrus, stratus, and cumulo-nimbus clouds created by 4th and 5th grade students.
Technology
Technology classes in February will be dedicated to Black History Month. Each week, students in grades K-2 will be introduced to a different famous African American on the Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr. websites. The students read or listen to information about the person and then answer questions about them. In grades 3–5, students will use 2 or 3 websites to research an African American given to them. They are going to responsible for a one to two page report. I look forward to reading each one!
