Every Student Counts, Every Moment Matters!
Message From Principal Webb
Hello families-
What a positive week at Longfellow celebrating Kindness Week! I have added some pictures below of our celebration/dress-up days.
Next week starts our parent-teacher conferences on February 27th in the evening.
Student Progress Reports will be coming home with students on Tuesday. Please review these reports and if you have any concerns you can email the teacher ahead of conferences so they have time to address your questions.
In some student conferences, other support teachers or specials teachers may join. Feel free to reach out to specials teachers or others if you do not get a chance to see them at your child's conference.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kelli Webb

ELP Nominations
The yearly screening of students for participation in the Extended Learning Program (ELP), the elementary program for gifted and very high ability students, is underway for the 2020-2021 school year. This program is appropriate for students who are at the highest academic levels in their grade. Students can enter this screening pool by Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) scores, teacher nomination or parent nomination. More information is available on the district website www.iowacityschools.org: Departments: Curriculum: Curriculum Areas: Extended Learning Program (ELP): Elementary Services. Only grades three through five are included in this screening process. Kindergarten and first grade students are being screened for ELP services through in-class lessons and collaboration with the classroom teacher throughout the school year. All second graders will be screened in the Spring. Parents will receive notification about second grade screening when it is scheduled at their child’s school. No parent or teacher nominations are necessary for grades K-2. If you would like to nominate your third, fourth or fifth grade child to be tested for ELP services, please complete a parent information form. Forms will be available online between February 21 and March 27, 2020 at https://forms.gle/AYjHSh61bErcyRWi8. Paper forms will be available in the school office during the same time. No forms will be accepted after March 27, 2020 at 4:00 PM.

CARNIVAL TIME
Every year, Longfellow holds a schoolwide carnival that also is our biggest fundraiser. This year’s carnival will be on Saturday, April 18, 2020, so please save the date! The event will include games, a cakewalk, raffles, and a silent auction, as well as food for sale. We will have more details in the weeks to come, but we hope your whole family can attend. The carnival is a fantastic event, and the money it raises helps us provide field trips, classroom and media support, special school experiences, and more!
