The underworld of teenagers
Dun Dun Dun!!!!!
What does it mean to be 'cool'? and how important is it?
What's the advantage of being around people who have similar outlooks and interests?
Examples
Odd One out
It feels weird and bad to be left out in a group of people. You want to stay in the loop and gossip of what everyone is saying.
What Liz thinks
She always wanted to be the center of attention and not be left out. She wanted to be everyone's first choice.
Why it's important to fit in
To fit in means someone wants everyone to like them. Liz's definition would be, being everyone's first choice and being the same as everyone else. It's important because you don't want to feel left out. You always want to be in the loop of things. Liz wants to know what's going on with everything.
Teenagers and drugs
Why do you think young people use drugs/alcohol? Is it a problem?
"According to a survey on teenhelp.com, teens in high school admitted to using drugs or alcohol in the past 30 days:
-Alcohol: 48%
-Marijuana: 19.9%
-Cocaine: 2.3%
-Steroids: 1.6%"
Yes, it's a problem because on teenhelp.com it states, "High school seniors: from 12% in 1992 to 20%. 10th graders: from 8% in 1992 to 16%. 8th graders: from 4% in 1992 to 6%" Since upperclassmen is doing drugs, the younger teens are looking up to them and following their footsteps thinking it's okay and cool to do that.
At what point does using drugs or alcohol become a problem?
One teen said she "swears 90 percent of this population smoke dope." Is this true in your school?
