Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term 1 - Issue 4
We BELIEVE, so TOGETHER we ACHIEVE!
A word from Mr Broom.
Wow! What a wonderful week we've had across school. Things are certainly very busy at the moment and that's just how I like it. It's also great to see the children with huge smiles on their faces and attendance is currently well above the national average, which is an indicator that lessons are exciting and fresh.
Our Y6 children have had a fabulous week in Low Mill, the outdoor activity centre in Askrigg, Wensleydale. Experiences ranging from Kayaking to Bushcraft have kept them on their toes. When I left on Wednesday night at 9pm, I could tell there were some very tired eyes ready for bed, and that's just the staff. As always our children have been a credit to us when out and about in the community, and it was great to hear from the staff on how polite and courteous their behaviour had been.
In their absence, the other children in school have enjoyed football tournaments, parent/children lunches and cross-phase activities based around our whole school focus on inspiration, to name a few.
I'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone for coming along to our first parent consultations of the year. These are really important meetings to give you an idea of how your child has settled into school and also how you can help to support your child too.
Finally, I'm really looking forward to next week. Our football club and Sherburn Voices choir begin on Thursday and Friday respectively. I've got my shinpads ready for some tough tackling!
I hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week.
Our first golden star winners
Our Senior Leadership Team & Staffing
The senior leadership team in school comprises of:
Myself as Headteacher. I take a strategic lead on whole school teaching & learning, the leadership of key stage one, pupil outcomes, attendance and I am the senior designated safeguarding leader.
Mrs Weights is the leader of teaching and learning for the early years and Mrs Weights is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo).
Miss Mackay is the leader of teaching and learning in key stage two. Miss Mackay takes a strategic lead on behaviour and the curriculum and she is also the deputy designated safeguarding leader.
As we continue to move forwards rapidly, we will be making an internal appointment of a deputy headteacher for the remainder of this academic year. This is aimed at bolstering the whole school leadership team to secure high quality outcomes for our children. I'll update you in the coming weeks of the outcome of this.
