September 13, 2020
Meyer Elementary
2020-2021
Hello Meyer Family,
It is hard to believe that we started school on August 17th and we have been in school four weeks already! We have enjoyed seeing our students smiling faces and engaging them in the learning process. Time flies when you’re having fun!
Learning Options
Starting on Monday, September 14th, we will welcome back the following students:
· CASE
· Early Childhood Special Education (ECSP)
· Prekindergarten – 2nd Grade
On Monday, September 21st, we will welcome back the following students:
· 3rd Grade
· 4th Grade
· 5th Grade
On Campus or Empowered Learning at Home
We understand that making the best decision for your child(ren) and family is not easy. Be reassured that we will continue to provide both On Campus and Empowered Learning at Home instruction throughout the school year. If a parent decides that the Empowered Learning at Home instructional plan is best for their family right now, that child will just continue with their teacher online. If a parent decides that the On Campus instructional plan will meet the needs of their child and family, they will simply report to school starting the date indicated above.
Changing Learning Options
If at any time a parent wishes to change their child’s learning option, they will simply contact Meyer Elementary by calling 281-891-8270 and let us know. We ask that parents provide the school with a 48 hour notice before the student arrives to school. This will give us the opportunity to make safety arrangements with your child’s teacher. If your child is eligible to ride the Spring ISD school bus, we are asking parents to notify the transportation department of their decision. It may take up to two weeks before bus transportation can be arranged through Spring ISD. Therefore, parents will be asked to provide transportation to and from school until bus transportation can be arranged.
Arrival and Dismissal
September 14th and the remainder of the year:
8:20 AM – 1st - 2nd grade arrival
8:25 AM – PK, Kindergarten, CASE, and ECSP arrival
September 21st and the remainder of the year:
8:05 AM – 5th grade arrival
8:10 AM – 4th grade arrival
8:15 AM – 3rd grade arrival
Where possible, we are asking parents to stagger students’ arrival to reduce the number of students entering the building at one time. Also, this will allow the staff members ample time to take each student’s temperature as they enter the building.
Safety
Students will have their temperatures taken upon arrival. If students have a temperature over 100.4, they will be sent to an Isolation Room. The nurse will then assess the student’s health and contact parents.
Arrival Location
We are asking parents to drop car riders off on the side of the building. Day care riders will be dropped off on the side of the building, as well. Bus riders will be dropped off in front of the school. Walkers are to arrive in front of the building and wait under the front awning, while social distancing.
Car Rider Tags
We will continue using Car Rider tags to securely dismiss students from the school. Parents may visit Meyer Elementary starting 9/11/20 to pick up tags. Each family will be provided a tag for their convenience. At dismissal, parents will need to show their Car Rider tag in order to pick up their child. If the tag is not visible, parents will be asked to report to the front office with identification before their child will be released. This procedure has been established to keep ALL students safe. Car riders will exit on the side of the building.
Walkers
Parents may elect for their child to be a walker. All walkers will be escorted out of the building by a campus staff member.
Bus Riders
Transportation for the Spring ISD school bus can be made by contacting the transportation department at (281) 891-6490. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten MUST be registered for bus service before they can begin riding the bus home from school. Registration forms are available for download HERE and must be submitted to the student's campus for processing. Once the student has been approved and routed for bus service, the parent/guardian will be notified that service may begin. So, Pre-K and K students can not ride the bus home until they have been registered.
Just as in the past, students in Pre-K and Kindergarten must be received from the bus by an approved person at the bus stop. Parents/guardians of Pre-K and Kindergarten students who require bus service will be issued a Personal Identification Number (PIN) once their student has been approved for bus service. Any person who is at the bus stop to receive the student must provide the driver with the PIN (either verbally or visually) in order to receive the student from the bus. If the person who is present to receive the student cannot provide the PIN or there is no person present to receive the student, the student will be returned to the school for the parent or guardian to pick-up.
Meyer Elementary has been assigned seven Spring ISD bus routes: #141, #308, #312, #316, #318, #329, and #510.
Visitors on Campus
Due to safety concerns with COVID-19, we are not allowing visitors on campus until future notice. This includes, eating lunch with students, observing classrooms, and walking students to class.
Uniforms
To reduce the financial burden on parents, students will be required to wear uniforms to school. Uniforms consist of navy, white, grey, or gold shirts, and denim, khaki, blue, or black bottoms. Students can wear a Meyer shirt any day of the week.
Lunch at Meyer
To reduce the number of students in the cafeteria at one time, certain grade levels will eat in the cafeteria, and the remaining grade levels will eat in the classrooms. The cafeteria will be cleaned after each grade level. Markers have been placed on the cafeteria tables to indicate where students should sit and on the floor where students should stand. Curbside meals will be provided for Empowered Learning at Home students. Please check the Spring ISD website for the times.
Additionally, we will not be able to accept food deliveries at school. Students will either bring a lunch to school or eat the school lunch provided by Child Nutrition.
Recess at Meyer
Teachers will supervise their class during recess. Students will be required to maintain social distancing and will not be allowed to share recess equipment.
Classroom Environment
Desk will be spaced 6 ft. apart in the classroom. All students and staff will be required to wear their mask throughout the day. Students will not share resources or materials with their classmates. Parents are encouraged to send students to school with the supplies listed on the School Supply list found on our website and in the Mustang Messenger. Students are required to bring their district assigned Chromebooks to school daily. Please charge Chromebooks every night. As indicated on the school supply list, please provide students with headphones for class use. This is assist in keeping students free of distractions during instruction.
Water Fountains
For the student’s safety, our water fountains will not be in use. Therefore, we are asking students to bring a labeled water bottle to school daily. Please make sure you fill the water bottle at home.
Our goal is to provide our students and staff with a safe learning environment. By taking the temperatures of all staff/students daily and by requiring staff/students to wear a mask, we will be able to combat the spread of the COVID virus.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Meyer Elementary. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare to welcome our On Campus students back to school.
