Dear Parents and Caregivers
Opening of Term 3 Masses
On Wednesday 27th July there will be a School Mass at 11.15am for the start of term and to announce our school Leaders for Terms 3 and 4. As we continue to be under the Covid Orange Traffic Light this will be a school only event but we will share photos on our school Facebook page and website.
School Parish Mass
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
Welcome back to all our whanau and friends. I hope everyone has had some time to rest and relax over the holidays. Unfortunately the weather was not as warm and fine as we would have liked but hopefully everyone managed some time for recreational outdoor activities.
We were delighted to see most of our families at our Parent Interviews during the last week of Term 2 . If you were unable to attend your child’s interview, please contact your child's teacher and arrange another convenient time.
As Mrs Fromont (R1A) and Mrs Gass (R15 were in isolation during the last week of term 2, they will be holding their interviews in Week 2.
We look forward to working with you and your children, as they continue to strive to reach their personal goals in the second half of the year.
Arohanui.

Mask Wearing at School
From the Ministry of Education Bulletin
A combination of the usual Term 3 winter illnesses and COVID-19 is likely to put more pressure on your school, kura and community.
The public health advice clearly shows that mask wearing is a strong tool in the defense against the transmission of COVID-19 and other airborne respiratory viruses. Masks are effective at preventing transmission of COVID-19 to a contact or preventing transmission of COVID-19 from a case. Masks work alongside other measures to protect students and staff.
The Government is providing 10 million child masks for Terms 3 and 4 and continues to make adult- sized masks available to schools for staff and older students.
Having received the above advice regarding ongoing cases of COVID in our community, we will be asking all children from Year 3 - 8 to wear masks while inside classrooms, hall, church, vans and buses.
The classrooms will continue to be well ventilated. To ensure children are not cold we will insist on the wearing of sweatshirts and allow jackets to be worn inside. We will also continue with insisting on good personal hygiene, hand sanitizing and for children to remain home if they are unwell.
All adults entering any inside spaces in our school are required to wear a mask as we are trying to protect all our students and staff as much as possible.
We are extremely grateful to all our whanau and wider community who support our actions and are helping us to keep all our tamariki safe and well. Thank you.
Hand Sanitiser
We have had several boxes of small bottles of hand sanitiser donated to the school which we wish to distribute to any families who may need them.
If anyone would like some hand sanistiser please collect it from the office. Unfortunately we are not allowed to send it home with students, an adult must collect it.
Board of Trustees Elections
All parents should have received information regarding Board of Trustees Elections by mail. Parents can nominate or be nominated for a place on our School Board of Trustees. Please complete the nomination form and return to school NO LATER THAN 12pm (noon) on Wednesday 3 August 2022. N.B.No Late nominations can be accepted. Please ensure the candidate you are nominating has signed the form.
If you have not received your nomination pack you may collect one from the office The forms were posted on Thursday 13 July 2022.
Engagement Worker in School (EWIS)
This term an Engagement Worker in Schools has been assigned to our school to work with us as we strive to increase our attendance rate to 90% and above.
The Government is concerned with the attendance level of some children. They are reaching out to families who:
- have children who are only attending school three days out of the five days each week.
- who have irregular attendance.
- who are arriving late or leaving early on a regular basis.
We understand that COVID and sickness has had a negative impact on attendance however, we are concerned for students who have inconsistent attendance and regular absences as this has a negative impact on their learning and achievement.
This is a new service for our area and has replaced the truancy service and if any parents have any concerns or questions please contact the school. This service is available to support and help all of our families.
Book Week
There will be different activities happening within the school all focusing on the importance of regular daily reading.
On Friday 29th July we will share our Book Week Activities with the school at a Book Week Assembly.
A thought to reflect on….. Perhaps we could all turn off the television and social media and
set aside some time to read individually or as a family. Have you ever thought of reading a novel as a family?
