They will cover a variety of areas, including health professionals, media arts, engineering, hospitality, automotive and machine shop, child services, business industry, public services, fashion design and civil engineering.
Early Finals and Winter Break
At this year's "There's No Place Like Homecoming" dance, Beckman transformed into the land of Oz! During homecoming week, the halls of BHS were decorated with murals and paintings of the Emerald City, poppy fields, Munchkin land, and black-and-white Kansas. Beckman fought its way to victory at the Friday night homecoming football game against Esperanza High School, where students were treated to a halftime show featuring dances by ASB and Class Council, the crowning of Homecoming Queen, Bethany Nguyen, and a firework show to celebrate the festivities. At the homecoming dance on Saturday, Homecoming King Noah Kim was crowned, and students enjoyed a night of dancing to the DJ's music, socializing, and creating amazing memories.

AP Environmental Science Fieldtrip
AP Environmental Science students are studying our local watershed - every other week water testing in Peters Canyon Wash (in class field trip) and the input and output ponds at San Joaquin Marsh as this is the watershed the students live in, and it is the main supply of water for Upper Newport Bay. In class they have 'mapped the watershed' and the various wetlands habitats they will see there. The field trip in meant to solidify their connection to this watershed, and its environmental importance. The students had a land tour during which they saw and learned about the various wetlands habitats and their inhabitants and conducted an investigation into plant biodiversity. On the water tour they gained an understanding of the geology of the wetlands and more of the inhabitants as well as conduct water quality testing. Real field science to make what they are learning real to them. A special thank you to BHS EdFund for their funding of this field trip!
Dance Team Has a "Superior" Start
Dance Team started their season with a successful USA Dance Plus Camp experience; we were awarded the highest Superior award for our camp routine as well as a Sportsmanship award. They have had a lot of fun supporting the Beckman Football Team at home games! They performed during the quarter breaks and with the marching band at halftime. Dance team just joined together with the basketball team for their 2nd Annual Dancing with the Basketball Stars show. It was a fun show where the dancers got to work with some of the basketball players to recreate the Dancing with the Stars TV show. They are now focusing on competition season which begins in January and will be debuting their routines at their Winter Show on Friday, December 7th in the Beckman Gymnasium!
BHS Cheer Starts the Year Strong
The Beckman Cheerleaders have been working hard this summer preparing for the upcoming season. This past weekend the squad represented BHS at the annual Tustin Tiller Day Parade and they took home the first place trophy. The squad is getting ready for their competition season, and they hope to earn their 4th State Championship title. To keep up with the latest happenings with our cheerleaders, follow their official Instagram page: Beckman_Cheer and Facebook page: Beckman Cheer.
Every semester, Beckman ASB and the Inter-Club Council host a Club Rush in order to introduce the student body to our different clubs. The fall 2018 Club Rush took place on October 3rd, in which 97 different clubs were able to reach out and introduce themselves to our student body. This year we released interactive maps in order to assist the students in finding the right clubs to go out and sign up for. Clubs are an important part of Beckman as they motivate students to get more involved on campus, find friends with similar interests, and - in general - do some great things on and off campus.
On Saturday October 20, 2018, our 2496N, 2496J, and 2496Y teams competed in the 9th Annual Chula Vista Robotics tournament. After Qualifications our teams ended up 6-0-1, 6-1, and 5-2 to be in the top 8 out of 39 teams! 2496J and 2496Y ended up being in the 2nd seeded alliance, while 2496N became the 7th seed alliance. 2496N ended up losing in the quarterfinals to our J/Y alliance. The Finals ended up coming down to MILLIMETERS in the last seconds, and the J/Y alliance won 17 to 16 to become Tournament Champions! 2496J also won the Amaze award, while 2496Y won the Excellence award. 2496Y also currently hold the #1 Skills score in the world with a total score of 34! BHS Medical Certificate Program
Beckman's Medical Certificate Program was created four years ago to give students an introduction to the medical field and the unique opportunity to interact with health professionals. It is a free, optional 3 year sequential club/program that takes place on campus during school hours and awards students with certificates each year (if they meet all criteria) + a graduation award if students complete all 3 years. Last year, over 48 health care professionals came to Beckman and the program awarded 410 certificates to Beckman students. Any BHS student may join at any time. For more information about the program, please email Mr. Chow at firstname.lastname@example.org or check out their website at www.tinyurl.com/BHSMCP
