From the Principal's Desk...
I will not leave you orphans
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to again thank you for your support and cooperation during this very challenging time. The faculty and staff of St. John the Baptist School are deeply grateful for all that you continue to do. We recognize that you have had to shoulder a great deal with this distance learning.
I have been in contact last week and this week with administrators from both Catholic and public schools regarding the end of the year issues. We are working to finalize these items and send a more detailed description out to everyone by the end of this week. It is clear that all schools public and private, small and large are wrestling with these same issues.
As you know, the bishops of Ohio have announced that some modified practice of resuming Masses will begin after Memorial Day. The intention is to have Mass on Pentecost. There is still a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays, but people may choose to attend. These decisions will be the responsibility of the pastor.
There are certainly days during this pandemic when I feel alone. Days when I wonder what will be required of us next. I know that I would like greater clarity about what school and life in general will look like going forward. I believe that we are all asking the same kinds of questions. Our students, your daughters and sons, are asking them as well.
I don’t have answers, but this Sunday’s Gospel gives me hope. Jesus says to His disciples, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you (JN 14:15-21). We are not alone in this. Jesus has promised to be in the midst of this with us. This week may we be thankful for those who are with us, for our family and friends. May we find in them the real presence of the Lord. In so doing, we will trust Jesus’ words to us; I will not leave you orphans.
Peace,
Dan Minelli

School Year will End on Friday, May 22, 2020
We are working to provide a detailed plan by the end of the week for the process in which books can be safely returned to school, medications picked up, and lockers be emptied. Stay tuned for more information regarding this matter.
