Town Hall Meetings - Next Week!
Enrichment Program begins on Wednesday, January 30th!
On behalf of the culture committee at MRHS, we would like to announce the details of the new enrichment program. For those who don’t know, the culture committee is a group of teachers who are dedicated to supporting and promoting activities and ideas that help make our school community a great place to be.
The enrichment program that will begin on Wednesday January 30th is an opportunity for students to explore areas of interest outside of their normal academic program. Examples include yoga, dance, the art of war, birdwatching and engineering maker-space workshops. Some activities will occur every enrichment period such as clubs and groups, while other events will be one-time affairs like the open mic show sponsored by Sandscript and the Dollars for Scholars workshop.
There will be nine enrichment dates this year and they will occur on the Wednesdays that early release does not occur. A detailed list of activities and dates will be posted on Aspen soon.
The enrichment period will begin at 2:35 on those days and extend through dismissal at 3:15. Students have been assigned an “enrichment homeroom” teacher and will report there after the last class of the day (shortened schedule).
Students may remain in their enrichment homeroom or hopefully, try out one of the activities or club offerings. This is an exciting and wonderful opportunity for all of us, staff and students, to step outside our comfort zone and have some fun while adding some richness to our high school experience!
Welcoming Michael Holguin to MRHS!
Greetings Students of Monomoy Regional High School. My name is Michael Holguin, or as some of you will soon know me, Mr. Holguin. I am a senior at Bridgewater State University and I am going to be student teaching at Monomoy this semester as part of my licensure program. I love literature, Mythology most of all -- I even named my pets after Greek gods and goddesses (I almost ran out of the Greek Pantheon I have so many). I am very excited to have this opportunity to share and learn with some of you, to become part of your learning community, and cannot wait to get started on our educational journey!

LETTER TO PARENTS of AP Students
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your student is enrolled in one or more Advanced Placement classes for the 2018-19 school year. Weare pleased to be able to extend this challenging and rewarding educational opportunity which prepares students for the expectations and rigor found in courses at the college level.
All students enrolled in AP classes are expected to take the Advanced Placement exams in the May 2019*. Earning scores high enough on these tests could potentially lead to college credit. Based on last year’s fees, determined by College Board, each exam will cost $94.00. For those on free and reduced lunch, the cost will be $30.00 per test. Students taking more than three exams will only need to pay the cost of three exams ($282.00). Payment in full will be expected by March 1. Checks should be made payable to MRSD.
On March 20, all AP students will attend a meeting during enrichment in the auditorium in preparation for the upcoming AP exam season. Reminders and specifics will be provided to students and parents on the “Friday Focus” emails. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s guidance counselor.

Athletics Weekly Summary
January 21st - January 24th
Written by: Caroline Howard
ATTENTION: All parents! If you have seen stressed out, slightly irritable teenagers with their heads in their textbooks this week, you should know something--it’s midterm week! So, I urge all of you to proceed with caution, and I will give you a heads up when finals come around! But anyways, thank you all for joining me again! It has been a very special week as the spirit from the Patriots win is still glowing in everyone's faces! Boy a game that was! We can’t say the same about the Saints… too soon? As for the Sharks, it has been a week packed with exciting games that dragged fans out to watch despite the cold weather! Without further ado… I give you this week’s Athletic Column!
On Saturday, The Cape Cod Furies played a brutal game against the Sandwich Blue Knights! This game was a bloodbath from the initial puck drop, and made the fans in the stands lean on the edge of their seats! The Furies put up a solid front, strong defense in the back and a quick offense in the front. Unfortunately, this was not enough to contain the Blue Knights. The Furies were defeated 8-0, put displayed great sportsmanship and effort! Next time girls!
The Furies were back at it on Monday with a game against the DY Dolphins. The Furies laced up their skates and hit the ice to show off what they were made of! They played a tough game against a very physical DY, who ultimately took the lead 5-1. The Furies played strong throughout the whole game, and after shook off the loss and moved forward. On to the next game!
Also on Monday night was the Boys Basketball game against Plymouth South. This game had the boys seeking redemption on the Panthers from their loss that happened earlier in the season. And that they did! The boys laid it all on the line, and had a massive home crowd cheering them on all the way! The final score of the game was 47-33! Bravo boys!
As Tuesday rolled around, it was Girls Basketball’s turn to show their skills! The girls tipped off against the Nantucket Whalers and played a close game! The girls showed off their passing skills as well as their elimination moves to get by those Whalers! But, it was a tough day for the Sharks as the final score read 45-21 Whalers. Nice try girls!
On Wednesday we had the Monarchs facing off against the Cape Cod Tech Crusaders. The boys came out strong and put this game in the books! That’s right, the Monarchs took the win 10-1! Wow! Goals were scored by Noah Tambolleo who had a hat trick, while his younger brother Lucas Tambolleo also walked away with two under his belt. Nice job boys! Great team effort!
Well folks, that’s all for this week! If you’re reading this, grab some hot tea and de-stress because midterms are over! Whoop Whoop! I’ll be back next week with more scores and more jokes that nobody laughs at! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!
