Ms. Porter's Monthly Message
Dear NHE Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! Our staff has truly enjoyed the past few weeks getting to know your children. It is apparent that we are going to have a great year ahead of us. Each year, we begin with reviewing the expectations with the students. I would like to take some time to share a few procedures and policies with you all. These are designed to ensure that we maintain a safe and effective school environment.
· Communication between the school and home is vital. Each class utilizes a communication app to share important information. If you have not done so yet, please take the time to do so. School administration also communicates via Parentlink voice messages and emails. It is essential to keep your phone number and email addresses up to date so you can receive these as well.
· Attendance is key to a quality education. Please make sure you are getting you child to school on time each day. The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. and students are seated ready to learn by 8:00 a.m. Students entering after this time can disrupt the learning environment. If your child is going to be absent, do not forget to call it into the attendance line.
· To maintain an orderly flow to arrival and dismissal, please review the traffic patterns further in this email. Being a neighborhood school, we do not have a lot of space and try to design traffic patterns that will allow for the safest and most efficient drop off and pick up. It only works if everyone follows the procedures.
· Nob Hill Elementary is a uniform school. Please make sure your child is in uniform each day. We have available uniforms if you need more shirts or pants. Our PTA sells t-shirts that students may wear each day.
· If you are interested in volunteering at PTA events, in the classroom, or going on field trips, you must be an approved volunteer. Make sure you complete the application.
· Speaking of PTA, if you have not signed up to be a member there is still time. You can sign up and pay your yearly dues on www.memberhub.com.
We have a lot of great events planned this year that we hope you can be part of. We kicked it off with our first PTA Family Night at Lime Mexican Grill. It was great to see families and share a meal together! Our next event is Open House. Mark your calendars. Open House for PreK-2nd is on September 7th from 6:15-7:15. Open House for 3rd-5th is September 14th from 6:15-7:15. We start promptly in the cafeteria with a brief informational presentation before heading to the classrooms.
I look forward to getting to know all our families and students throughout the year. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Much Love,
Ms. Porter

Dear Nob Hill Parents and Families,
It has been an exciting and smooth start to what promises to be a fantastic school year. It has been so nice meet all the students and families and I am looking forward to working with everyone this school year.
Parents are reminded that the school opens at 7:30 AM and the school day begins at 7:55 AM. Arriving on time for school ensures that your child does not miss out on the important learning activities that happen early in the day when they are most alert. Set your child up for success and make certain he/she arrives to school on time every day. The school day ends at 2:00 PM. We know that traffic continues to be challenging. Please plan and be patient as you follow the established traffic patterns. This is a gentle reminder that Soccer Park Gate into Nob Hill closes every morning promptly at 7:55 AM.
Communication is essential, and we strive to connect to our students, parents and families, and community every day. We will continue reaching out to you with weekly E-News and robocalls. We also encourage you to visit our website for announcements, information, and celebrations.
Follow us on Twitter as we highlight all the wonderful things happening at Nob Hill @NobHillElem.
Sincerely,
Susana Cruz, Assistant Principal

Media Center Minutes
The media center is springing to life as we begin the school year. New portraits will be painted on the walls starting in the early part of September, the books are almost fully in place, and the furniture is on the way. It is an exciting time.
Until our furniture and checkout equipment arrive, please remember that there are many way to access online libraries including Tumblebooks, Get Epic, and our partnership with Broward Libraries, Axis360. For more information on online resources you can visit the Nob Hill Media website by Googling: Nob Hill Media or go to www.tinyurl.com/NobHillReads
Let’s Make a Deal:
A great way to motivate your student to READ, is to set up an incentive program for them at home. When my kids were at Nob Hill Elementary we offered them $.25 for every book they read and then told us about. It cost us a few dollars, but the kids read a ton of books. Perhaps you can make a deal where, for every five books they read and tell you about, they earn an extra 20 minutes of video game time, or for every ten books they read and tell you about they get a trip for ice cream, a Slurpee, or doughnuts. Encourage reading everyday. Your child will benefit greatly.
Debate:
In the month of September, we will be forming our Debate Team for interested 4th and 5th graders. Debate builds skills and provides challenges that are on the highest level for elementary students. More information will be coming soon and information will be sent home, but you might want to talk about it with your children and see if it is a challenge that they may wish to undertake.
Spirit Fridays
Student Drop off/Pickup
Student safety is critical to us.
There are no staff members to supervise children before 7:15 am. Therefore, students should not be dropped off at school before this time. The cafeteria opens at 7:30 am for complimentary breakfast for all students. Students who eat breakfast at school should report to the cafeteria as soon as they enter the building.
Arrival Procedures For Car Line and Drop Off
Parent/Guardian Role:
Parents/Guardians will enter, pull all the way forward, and remain in your card. They will drop off their child in the main car loop or south car loop. Parents will continue the flow of traffic and exit. There is no parking at any time in the parent drop-off loop.
Student Role:
Children will walk safely to the building and enter through the central entrance doorway. Children will proceed to their classroom and sit in the hallway against the wall in a single file line until the bell rings. There are indicated stickers set three feet apart to help students with social distancing. The arrival bell will ring at 7:55 am, and students may enter their classrooms calmly.
Staff Role:
Staff members will monitor and assist morning and afternoon to supervise students and ensure their safety.
Dismissal Procedures For Car Line and Parent Park Pick Up

Car loop line is not a time to discuss with the teacher.
