Pre-AP/AP Parent Meeting & College Readiness Seminar

Date: Tuesday, January 28

Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Location: Cabot High School Loft & Media Center

Parents of students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend. They will receive an overview of the Pre-AP/AP Program. They will also be provided valuable information regarding course selection, college applications, scholarship opportunities, high-stakes exam preparation, and other pertinent information about the Pre-AP/AP Program. Parents may contact Aaron Randolph, Director of Gifted and AP Programs, at 843-3363 for additional information.

Tryouts for the 2020-2021 Swim Team

Dates: Monday, March 9 - Friday, March 13

Time: 3:40pm - 4:10pm

Location: Veteran's Park Community Center (508 N Lincoln St, Cabot, AR 72023)

Who: Students who will be in 9th - 12th grade for the 2020-2021 school year

Students must have an active Sports Physical to tryout and must bring a copy with them the first day of tryouts. Swimmers should be able to swim 500 yards freestyle without stopping and be proficient in 2 of the 4 strokes if interested in trying out. Contact Coach Wadley if you have any questions at

Blood Drive

"Attention CHS, our 3rd Blood Drive is Friday, February 7th in the media center. If you are 16 or older pick up a form outside room 2410 (in the English Wing) or in the median center and turn it in by Wednesday, February 5th by 3:30 to get your appointment scheduled. Walk ins will be scheduled the day of the drive outside the media center.

All donors save three lives, get a free Friends Themed t-shirt and a free adult ticket to the Museum of Discovery. Make sure you eat breakfast and drink lots of water!! Let’s show them what Cabot can do and sign up for your appointment today! Our goal is 100 successful donations! Student Council will post the appointments will be posted Friday the 7th at 7:30 am in front of the media center! "

Students taking the February ACT:

ACT Test Prep sessions will be offered during Zero Hour on January 28th-30th and February 4th-6th in Media Center Lab B. Go to the counseling center calendar to see what sessions will be discussed each day (or pick up a flyer in the counseling center). I encourage students to start taking practice tests (be sure to correct them) and go to the counseling center google classroom (code: yjwtuh) and start looking at the ACT Prep information.


Basic Life Support Class (CPR) is being offered Monday, Feb. 10, 2020 in Champs Hall 105 from 3:30-7:30pm. The cost is $30.00 and payment is required at registration. Please see Mrs. Hyden in Champs Hall 105 to sign up. Classes are limited.


Seniors and Juniors! The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be given on Friday, February 14th, at 8:10 am in the LOFT. If you would like to take this test, sign up is available in the counseling center through February 10th. Seniors will be seated first, followed by juniors as space is available. Seating is limited.


As you apply to colleges, universities and vocational schools throughout this school year you will be asked to send a high school transcript to those institutions. The CHS Counseling Center is happy to send that information to the institution of your choice. You will need to come the CHS Counseling Center and fill out and sign a transcript request form. Once that form has been completed, your transcript along with your ACT scores will be sent electronically. Your immunization records will be faxed to the requested location. You do not need to email your principal or your counselor for this. Simply come to the CHS Counseling Center and fill out the form.

CHS Dance Team

If interested in trying out for the CHS Dance Team, come by Coach Hillenburg's room, 1503, to get the paper with the Google classroom code. There will be a mandatory meeting January 29th at 6 pm at the Freshman academy.

Governor's Distinguished Scholarship

Governor’s Distinguished Scholarships - students who meet the following minimum eligibility criteria are eligible to be named Governor’s Distinguished Scholars: either a 32 composite score on a single ACT or 1410 combined math and critical reasoning score on a single SAT AND either a 3.50 academic grade point average or selection as a National Achievement Finalist or National Merit Finalist. (Those who are named National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Scholars may qualify without meeting the GPA requirement, but must still meet the ACT/SAT requirement). If funding allows, up to 375 Governor’s Distinguished Scholars may be named. If there is a county in Arkansas that does not have a Distinguished Scholar, the highest ranking applicant from that county will be awarded a Governor's Scholarship at $5000 per year. Financial need of the student is not a factor in the award of the scholarship, therefore no financial information is required. (You do not have to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for this scholarship.) The Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship will pay up to $10,000 per year for tuition, mandatory fees, room and board. Deadline is February 1, 2020. Visit for more information.

Home Access Center (HAC)

Now is a great time to check your student's grades and attendance through the Home Access Center (HAC)! You can log in at the link below. Be sure to change the district to Cabot. If you would like to receive real time notices about absences and grades for your students, you can set up alerts. To do that, log in and put your cursor in the upper right corner on your name. A drop box should appear. If you click on My Alerts you can set up these notices to be sent to your email or phone.

Important Senior Information

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now available to students at the link below. All seniors applying for college must complete the FAFSA for consideration for federal aid. This application must also be completed as part of the Arkansas Academic Challenge (Lottery Scholarship) application.

4. Cap and Gown/Senior Memorabilia

All balances must be paid for before students receive their items. Students must not owe any money in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please encourage your student to order what he/she wants, but not more than can be afforded. Any student who can not afford to purchase a cap and gown should contact their counselor or Mrs. Beason.

5. Email Address

Seniors should NOT use his/her Cabot School email address/account when applying for colleges, universities, vocational schools, student aid and/or scholarships. Cabot School email accounts will be deactivated once a student graduates from Cabot High School. Students need a permanent, appropriate email account that can be used all through their college years and beyond.

6. Transcripts

In order for a transcript to be sent to a college/university a student must come to the CHS Counseling Center and fill out the appropriate form. The most transcripts are sent electronically. Immunization records will be mailed separately as they are not a part of a student's electronic transcript. Students do not need to email his/her counselor to request a transcript. They should simply come to the CHS Counseling Center and fill out a transcript request form.

7. Wall of Acceptance

Students are encouraged to bring a copy of his/her college/university/vocational school acceptance letter to Mrs. Angela Beason in room 1115. These letters will be added to a wall in the CHS hallway. For every acceptance letter received, the student's name will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the school year. Please cross out personal information (address, test scores, Student ID, etc).


If you would like to know if you are still in the running to receive a medallion for graduation, email using your school email address and she will let you know. Medallion requirements are: 1. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or above each semester starting in 9th grade through first semester of 12th grade 2. Cannot have a grade on your transcript that is worth less than a 3 points (C or below in a regular class) 3. Cannot have retaken a class for grade improvement (unless the original grade requirement was met prior to retaking the class).

Anime Club

Anime club will meet the first Tuesday of every month in Mrs. Gately's room 2434 from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

Yearbooks On Sale Now!


The ACCUPLACER test will be offered at CHS several times this school year. If you are wondering if this test is right for you as an alternative or in addition to an ACT score, talk to your counselor or a Media Specialist. The test will take place in the Media Center Lab B and will cost $10 which is payable on the test date. Sign up in the Counseling Center or Media Center. The dates for this year will be:

Student Athletes

Any student athlete who aspires to play sports in college must register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA. It is recommended that students register with NCAA during their Sophomore year of high school. NCAA registration is the student's responsibility. Wednesday Music Day!

Students can "request" a song for $1, have a special announcement made for $2, such as this song is for_____, or Happy Birthday to_______ . Songs will have to be approved 1st. All song requests or special announcement requests must be in writing and turned in with the money to the office by Tuesday.

CHS Reads!

One of our school wide initiatives this year is to incorporate more non-fiction reading in all classes. Parents/Guardians, we need your support. Please encourage your student to read and ask him/her about what they are reading.

CHS Check Out Policy

  • CHS students will be allowed to check out with a parent/guardian note only. A parent/guardian phone number will need to be included on the checkout note for verification purposes.

  • ***No phone call checkouts will be allowed because of safety concerns.

CHS is a closed campus and we strongly discourage students from checking out at lunch. This typically causes unnecessary tardies and classroom interruptions. If a student is checking out at lunch, a parent/guardian must physically come in and sign the student out and them back in from lunch.

Only a parent/guardian is allowed to drop lunch off for a student. If a parent/guardian is dropping off lunch for a student, there will be a table (outside the office) with a sharpie for the students name to be written on it. Students should know in advance that lunch is being dropped off to them.
