5TH GRADE NEWS
April 20-23
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Students will not be required to complete connections (Art, Music, PE, French), Exhibition, or Challenge/Gifted work. However, assignments for these courses will still be available on Mondays for students to complete any time during the week if they would like to. PE will be offered to students through our Morning Announcement videos.
GRADED ASSIGNMENTS
During the town hall meeting this past Friday, Dr. Carstarphen also shared additional information regarding grades. The last day students were physically present at school was Friday, March 13th. This was also the last day of the 3rd nine weeks period. Students' averages from Friday, March 13th will be a floor average, meaning students' averages cannot go below their average from the 3rd nine weeks. They will either stay the same or they can go up (if they perform well on assignments).
Students will still be given a minimum of 5 assignments per subject area this nine weeks. Classwork, quizzes, and tests/projects will continue to be graded. You can view your child's grades on Infinite Campus. If you do not have access to Infinite Campus, please contact Astrid Moyer. amoyer@atlanta.k12.ga.us.
For more information about recent changes, you can listen to Mr. McBride's Update.
MISSING ASSIGNMENTS
If your child selects the classwork tab on Google Classroom, there is a “View Your Work” option. When you select this, you can see which assignments your child has turned in and which assignments are still missing.
EXHIBITION PROJECT
Due to the new 4-day schedule for students and other restrictions, we will not be moving forward with Exhibition projects. Students can work on these on their own if they would like to, but it is not required.
IREADY
iReady is a really great online teaching and practice tool for Reading and Math that is now offered to ALL students. Students can log on through MYBACKPACK. Students also need their Student ID to enter. The username is their Student ID + aps. The password is their Student ID. If your child does not know their Student ID, they can ask me during our morning meeting or during my office hours (M-Th, 12:45-1:45). After your child enters their iReady Username and Student ID, they can log in with active directory. It may ask them to enter their computer username and password after that.

FAVORITE MEMORY AT JACKSON
As you know, the end of the year is going to look a little different for our 5th graders. One thing that we want to do for them it to begin featuring their "Favorite Memory at Jackson" on the Morning News. If you could have your 5th grader video themselves telling us what their favorite memory at Jackson is and send it to me in an email to include in the morning news cast.
Please make the video no more than 20-30 seconds long. To get all kids in, they will have to be short. In the email, please give name and teacher. We'll start putting them in as soon as we start getting them. Please email videos to wtjacksonprincipal@gmail.com.
"This is Mary from Ms. Jones' class and my favorite memory of\at Jackson was the time......"
We're going to be planning a few other things for the kids also, so stay tuned.
Thanks and please know that we miss our 5th graders!!
I especially miss having lunch duty with them!
