We want you to join the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court is part of the Judicial Branch. They take care of constitutional issues and not guilt or innocent.
How to become a member
- Step 1: Presidential Nomination.First, Obama will nominate someone to become a Supreme Court Justice.
- Step 2: The Senate Votes.Senators look very closely at a nominee's background because, once approved, the nominee is a Justice for life.
- Step 3: Taking a Seat.If a nominee gets more than half the votes in the Senate, he or she is confirmed. Then that person takes a sacred oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
What does the Supreme Court do?
The Supreme Court make national decisions based on the Constitution. There are two types of original jurisdiction(state vs US, state vs state, ambassadors from other countries) and appellate jurisdiction(appealed from lower federal courts, state courts that involve federal questions). Examples are if two state are fighting over a river, it goes to the supreme court directly and is a original jurisdiction. If the US and New York got in a fight then it would go to the Supreme court as a original jurisdiction. If a person got cussed for murder the could appeal it to the supreme court and say the death penalty is unconstitutional(it is just an example and does not apply in the real world), that is an appellate jurisdiction. If you got your property taken by the government and you think it is taking away one of your civil right then you can appeal it. The supreme court will change it if they fell you are right. That is an appellate jurisdiction.
