Notifications are Back? Domain Postmaster, Chrome Shortcuts, and Last Call for the GC Cleanup
Notifications are Back?
Say What? But we were told that they are gone! I know, I know :) Somehow, someway, the notifications that were once received in our email inbox, have miraculously reappeared. If you have them turned them off, feel free to turn them back on. If they weren't turned on and you would like to see how to turn them on, check out the tutorial below. Check out the tutorial just in case you need a refresher or something has changed. Now you should be able to start receiving those notifications when students submit late work or get notified when students comment back to you. In addition, Sara Gleason created a quick video to show you how to create a rule and dedicate a folder in your inbox so these notifications don't clog up your inbox. Thank you Sara!
Look at the bright side, we learned how to add Form Notifications to a Google Form AND we encouraged the students to get familiar with their emails.
Special thank you to Jeff, Dave, and all their IT staff who have helped logged hours looking into this!
Domain Postmaster Email
This past Thursday we started receiving a summary email in our Outlook email accounts from a "Domain postMaster address". This is a summary email from the Mimecast portal that contains any email that may appear to be suspicious. It does not mean that the email is malicious, it very well could be, but it is another safety protocol to help increase our cybersecurity protection at WCSD. Linked is a pdf summary of the Quarantine Sandbox, and I have made a tutorial below showing you how to navigate the email and the Mimecast portal.
How well do you know your Chrome shortcut keys? Scroll down and enter the 'How Well Do You Know Your Chrome Shortcuts" challenge. More directions below.
I will leave the presentation for the Google Classroom Clean Up on here for another week. There are still numerous contacts being made on how best to proceed with the new marking period, so I will keep it here for at least another week. It can also be found under the Professional Learning Page on the Empower website.
Finding Ways to Engage Students with Word....Walls
Need a fun and engaging way to engage students whether they are hybrid or virtual? Check out Janelle Bova's implementation of Word Wall. At first glance it may seem like it would be strictly an ELA platform, but it is NOT. Word Wall is a great way to create a quick activity for content that may be challenging for your students to become engaged. It also offers you the option to print out your activities, download as a pdf(which you can then upload to Kami), or assign them straight to Google Classroom. Check out how Janelle has implemented Word Wall into her curriculum. [Link to video]
