January is full of assessments for your kiddo. We will be assessing reading levels and completing the middle of the year MAP testing throughout this month. Please ensure your child has a working set of headphones. These are important for testing and our daily computer time. Thank you!

Reading with your child

Your child is encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes each night. This not only builds strong reading habits but enhances their reading skills, builds vocabulary and confidence, improves writing skills, and strengthens their social, emotional, and character development.

If reading with your child is not already a part of your daily routine, or it's not a positive one, here are 3 ways to help:

1) do it often - make it a habit. Once reading has become a routine, your child can take the lead and help make it happen each night.

2) don't skip the pictures: pictures help tell the story. Ask your child what they see in the pictures and how they help him/her understand what's happening in the story.

3) push pause - take a moment to reflect on the pages, make connections, and ensure they are understanding what they are reading.

Reading with your child is a special bond and over time the benefits really add up!

  • *Please send a coat, jacket, sweatshirt, or sweater for your student. We go outside EVERY DAY for recess at 10:30 a.m. During this time of year, it is still chilly at this time of day.*
  • *It is a good idea to send a gallon sized ziplock baggie with an extra change of clothes, including socks and underwear, in your child's backpack each day. Sometimes, children at this age still have accidents, and/or they spill things onto their clothing. There are no extra clothes on campus at this time in case a need arises.*
