For those of you who love the outdoors Auckland is the perfect place. Auckland has a range of mountains and several volcanic cones for hiking and mountain biking. Two popular places to visit are Mt. Eden which has a good views of all the city and One Hill Tree which is actually a volcanic peak in Auckland.

Natural Areas

Auckland has several natural landscape attractions you can enjoy on a bicycle or on foot. If you enjoy biking you can take one of the many bike day tours offered. The bike paths cover many of the city's attractions including beaches, bays and mountains around the city. It's a fun way to learn about Auckland. In addition, the city has many beautiful gardens where you can take walks and have picnics. Some gardens can even be reserved for weddings and parties. If you prefer to go past the buildings and cars you can go to the Tohunu Torea Nature Reserve or the North Head Historic Reserve to look at the local wildlife, migrating birds, ponds, sandpits and long beaches.

Beaches

If you love relaxing at the beach,then you're in luck because Auckland has many different beaches to choose from. In them you can swim, snorkel, and fish. If you wait and watch you might see dolphins or whales in the distance. If you like to surf this place covers that too! Swimming places are normally located to the east of the city where the water is nice and calm. If you're looking for the rough waves for surfing they are located to the west of the city where the waves are big and high.

Entertainment

In entertainment, Auckland has many exciting things to do. If you're a daredevil and like to take risks, there is bungee jumping! Bungee jumping was invented in New Zealand and in Auckland you get to jump off the Auckland Harbor Bridge straight into the water if you like. If you want to get really wet and like boating there is a boat called the water jet that takes you through an extreme obstacle course including fishtailing, 360 spins, and takes you off overhanging walls.

Whale Watching

Afterward, you can head on over to the Hauraki Gulf and the wonderful Kaikoura for some whale watching. If you go to the Hauraki Gulf, you might see the critically endangered Brydes whales. Or, if you go between December-March, you can see orca or killer whales. You can always go see the 50 foot giant sperm whales because they’re normally everywhere. If you like these giants, go between June and July to see the Humpbacks.

In Auckland, you don't have to be afraid of blizzards, tsunamis, or anything like that because they don’t happen there. Although Auckland has nice warm weather without crazy temperatures, rain is a part of it, and you will experience it throughout the year. The winters are also wet but mild, and sometimes there might be cyclones but the good thing is they’re rare.
