Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
December 10, 2020
Dear Parents,
Children love the magical moments of Christmas. Inside our school building, many Advent and Christmas activities are taking place such as Advent confessions, the lighting of our classroom Advent wreaths each week, the decorating of our school tree, the preparation for our Gingerbread House contest, classroom door decorating and nativity scene assembling, etc. Even though our school is closed off to the rest of our community, we are truly enjoying celebrating this time in school. This is certainly not what we wanted but what has to be for now. As we make our way through the season of Advent, I pray that your family can make many memories of activities that keep the "Christ" in Christmas and stay connected as a family. We hope that the new members of our school community can see that our school is a place for all to celebrate and flourish together. May God bless you and your loved ones during this special time of year.
Here are a few important school updates and reminders:
- The weather has certainly changed this week and has become much colder. I again urge you to send your children to school appropriately dressed for the outdoors. As long as the wind chill is above freezing, all students will go out for a short time each day.
- As we move into the winter season and prepare for perhaps some snow filled days, school closures for snow or ice will look different this year. Even though the building may close for weather events, the learning will continue on the virtual platform. Students will be expected to sign into class from home and complete assignments. More detailed information will be sent home upon our return to school on January 4th.
- Our Gingerbread House Competition will take place this coming Monday, December 14th. This will operate very similarly to the Pumpkin Contest. Please see the flyer below for additional details.
- This is just a reminder that school will close at 11:45 AM on Friday, December 18th for the Christmas holiday. There will be NO PM CARES. School will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
