Library Media Specialists Selected for LEAD Cohort
BHS Library Media Specialists, Crystal Smith and Amy Whitfield, along with WHS Library Media Specialists, Kathy Carroll and Marti Brown, were selected to participate in leadership training offered by the South Carolina Department of Education's Office of School Leadership. This one year cohort commitment for training is the first of its kind offered for certified support faculty such as library media specialists and guidance counselors.
R2 Innovates Idea Transforms BHS Professional Development
What began as a brain storming of ideas to improve professional development opportunities for teachers at BHS has transformed teaching and learning at our school. Under the leadership of TLC Tami Lenker, we have created a PD atmosphere that allows teachers to learn about and work on classroom tools in which they are interested. This individualized approach to PD, along with a learning space for teachers to gather, has had a positive effect on teacher interest in PD as well as on student learning. Another benefit has been an increase in collaborative opportunities that allow media specialists and the TLC to support teachers and work with students.
BHS Library Cyber Center Hosts USC Intern
For the third time, we supervised an intern from the University of South Carolina's School of Library and Information Science. The internship is part of a 20 day practicum required for the Master of Library and Information degree at USC. We anticipate mentoring another USC graduate student in the Fall of 2015.

The Library Cyber Center website is a vital tool that we use consistently to not only provide 24/7 access to resources for our students and teachers, but it is also a teaching tool that we use when working with classes or students individually.
