Puppy Photography Project
This December Mrs. Hosek’s Photography class received an early Christmas present: a visit from Maggie, the Therapy dog. Mr. Phil Hoffman brought Maggie in to BBCHS and the photography class enjoyed photographing and petting the therapy dog. It taught the students a lot about cooperation between the photographer and the subject. Hopefully they will take this skill with them and further their education in photography.
SWSC Science Competition
On January 21st, the BBCHS Science Team, sponsored by Mr. James Schreiner, took part in the SWSC conference science competition at Lockport High School. The SWSC conference consists of sixteen schools including the Lincoln-Way schools, Carl Sandburg, Homewood-Flossmoor among other top schools in the South Suburbs. The competition allows students that have an interest in science to compete in events such as Trebuchet Construction, Tower Building, Egg Drop and Mousetrap Car Races. BBCHS participants brought home several medals. “Most of my seniors graduated last year so we have quite a few new faces on the team," said Mr. Schreiner. "The future for the SWSC science team looks bright!” The team brought home numerous medals in multiple events.
Congrats to:

Art Honor Society Student Volunteer at Feed Art Center
Students in Art Honor Society got their hands and clothes dirty volunteering at Feed Art Center in Kankakee on January 25. They earned service hours by painting walls, organizing art supplies, and cleaning the art studio. Senior Paige Wilson shared, "It was cool to help out and also to talk with people from outside our school about art media." Feed Art Center is located in downtown Kankakee and hosts different workshops and events for visual and performing artists. This experience provides not only service opportunities, but also valuable networking for BBCHS art students.
Coach Vogel named NHSSCA State Director for Illinois.
Mr. Adam Vogel was selected by Great Lakes Region 7 Director Brian Clarke, Head Strength & Conditioning Director & Physical Wellness Department Chair at Noblesville (IN) H.S. to be the NHSSCA State Director for Illinois.
The National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) was created to allow high school coaches to grow as true professionals. They are an Association FOR professionals BY professionals. It remains their mission to educate, equip and empower coaches to make a positive impact in the lives of student-athletes.
"I'm grateful to be a part of the NHSSCA. Being appointed is attribute to our Student-Athletes and everyone that makes Bradley-Bourbonnais a Community High School from the parents, administration, and staff that contributes to our student body success."
BBCHS students, athletes, and coaches have benefitted from Mr. Vogel's dedication to our APT program. Adam has a great energy and drive to create the best in our athletes. He works with everyone to instil a knowledge of the weight room and exercises. Congratulations, Coach!

“Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind" production to take the stage!
It’s a play! It’s a competition! It’s a floor wax! It’s a dessert topping! It’s….well, what in the blue blazes is it? The ground-breaking “Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind,” originally produced by Chicago’s very own Neo Futurists now makes its way to the Bradley-Bourbonnais High School stage. The presentations will take place on February 23, 24, and 25 at 7:00 PM on the BBCHS Auditorium stage.
The production is unlike anything that has ever been presented on the BBCHS stage, or even in the area, for that matter, says director Stefan Benoit, who notes that developing improv skills was crucial to insure the success of this particular show. “The creation of this show requires a different rehearsal strategy,” he noted. We spent a lot of time building the team so they can work off of each other in unscripted sections of the show. Benoit, who cut his teeth on improv theater with groups like The Pros from Dover and The Warp One Mutants, noted that his venture back to his improv root was like putting on an old comfortable pair of shoes. “Once we worked out the kinks, it was amazing to see these students join in with group creativity, and how they worked together. It was fantastic.”
“Too Much Light” presents 30 two-minute plays in the course of an hour - if the actors can make it work. “We will be setting a timer at the beginning of the play,” Bailey Carruthers, Student Director states, “if the buzzer sounds before they complete the 30 plays, the show is over, regardless. To make it even more difficult, the actors will never know what order the play will be presented, since audience members are asked to shout out the number of the play they want to see next. There are a lot of props, laughs, rubber chickens, and scratch-your-head moments in this show; you’ll need to buckle up, because it’s going to be a wild ride!”
“Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind,” will take place on February 23, 24, and 25 at 7:00 PM on the BBCHS Auditorium stage. Tickets will be General Seating and cost $4. Hope to see you there!
National Honor Society Blood Drive
NHS will be hosting its second (and final) American Red Cross blood drive Friday, Feb. 24 in the East Gym. In the October drive, NHS collected 90 units. The number of units we collect throughout the school year determines the amount of the scholarship they award to a BBCHS student from the Red Cross. In 2016, NHS awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Austin Wray.
