Possible Exposure and Next Steps

HRBA Families,

We received word today from a parent who has been exposed to the Corona Virus through her job. The exposure occurred last Thursday (Feb 27th) and the parent was not notified at that time. The parent then came in to volunteer in our school with the kindergarten class (Ms. Raquel) on Friday (Feb 28th) for 3 hours, assisting with decorating but not working directly with students. The parent was later notified that she had been exposed to 4 patients who later tested positive for the virus. The parent does not have any symptoms.

Today, following the notification to us, our school contacted the Tacoma Pierce County Health Dept for guidance on how to proceed, as directed by the Archdiocese of Seattle Office for Catholic Schools Superintendent. The health department indicated no further action on the school’s part since the person who was exposed has shown NO symptoms. Regardless, the school will continue to clean all surfaces, as we have been doing to tackle the potential for this virus and all germs. As an added precaution, we will be doing additional cleaning this weekend. If the parent begins to show symptoms, we will let you know IMMEDIATELY and would likely need to close the school for a period of time. At this time, the health dept has said that closing the school is not necessary (or advised).

Please let us know if you have additional questions and, as always, if your child develops this or any other serious illness, please let the school know immediately.
