Dixson Monthly Update
Carl L. Dixson Primary School
What's Going On?
January Update
During January, our students had opportunities to engage in exciting and fun learning experiences. Small group instructional methods have gone a long way to personalize instruction for all students. An intervention system is in place to assist when students need a little extra assistance.
Another Fitness Friday and a fun 'Hat Day' helped to make sure that the Dixson students are receiving a memorable and meaningful education at Dixson - I am so proud of them.
Pre-K Updates
Lots of exciting things have happened in the new year in Pre-K!!! We have continued to work hard on our independence skills.
Pre-K learned all about animals and animal habitats
We practiced our sequencing skills after reading the story “The Mitten” by Jan Brett
We have continued to work on recognizing and writing the letters in our name
We’ve learned all about the letters Ss, Pp, Uu, Vv, Mm, Cc, & Dd
Pre-K learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how he wanted to make our world a better place. We then talked about how we can make a difference with “our own two hands” after reading the poem “With My Own Two Hands” by Ben Harper
We are so excited for all the fun February is going to bring us!
Kindergarten Updates
Kindergarten rocks!!
We learned the following topics in the month of January:
Phonics: Letters Vv, Ww, Yy, Xx, Zz and Qq. Review Alphabet. Identify the beginning sound.

Requests to Support Student Safety At Dixson
- Please remember that the Dixson parking lot is for staff only... even for 'quick' drop-off or pick-up. It has only one entrance/exit and therefore presents a safety risk for pedestrin traffic.
- Of course, we recommend keeping your child in school for entire days of instruction. However, if there is a situation in which you need your child early, please call ahead and plan to pick the child up before 2:55pm (2:30 on Mondays). This allows us to ensure that students get to where they need to be during the transition leading up to dismissal.
- When possible, we send students outside for recess. Please send them dressed warm with footwear fit for running!
Thank you!
