Welcome Back - Homework Reminders
Well, break has officially been over for a week, but we are all just finally starting to get back into a routine. Just a reminder that every night, students are expected to read 20 minutes for homework. I send home a Pizza Hut Book It! sheet at the beginning of the month October-March. Every time a student reads 20 minutes they can color in a square. As long as at least 20 squares are colored in, they will get a certificate for a free personal pan pizza.
Another expectation is for some students to complete fluency each week. This applies to 10 students in my classroom. Your child should know if this is them, but you can email me if you are not sure. On Monday, they are given a passage that should be read each night. They should turn this in on Friday.
Finally, there is no longer specific spelling homework. Math homework will be sent home irregularly because it depends on what we complete in class. If you are ever uncertain about homework expectations, please let me know.
Book Report
We are taking a break from book reports this month! I am sure you and your child are excited about that! I know they can end up being a lot of work, but I am very proud of the work that has been turned in. It is great to see all of the excitement around the different book genres!
Journeys
This week we are continuing with the story Dear Mr. Winston. Ask your child what this story is about and why they think Cara isn't truly, genuinely sorry. You can also listen to this with your child on Think Central for extra practice.
FAST Testing
Next Friday, I will be testing students on their total correct words per minute. The goal for winter in 4th grade is 135 correct words per minute. Please read with your child as much as possible between now and then to give them a boost before this testing begins.
