It Takes More To Be A Bullldog
Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):
As we continue throughout the school year, we look forward to our continued partnership and collaboration - together, we will be able to keep our students in our classrooms and within our facilities to the fullest extent possible. As we have done in the past, we ask that if your child is not feeling well, that you allow them to stay home and recover. We have worked with Atlantic Health, CityMD, and the NJDOE to find options for testing within our community. Once solidified, we will share these options and information out with our entire learning community.
As a district, we remain committed to working to give our students and their families all of the programs and experiences we have traditionally had, albeit modified at times to make sure that all are well. As we plan these events/experiences, we thank you for your understanding and collaboration. In the end, while mandates are currently being made beyond the control of the district, the manner in which we navigate these mandates and orders with a student and staff focus will allow us to maintain all that makes Butler special.
Be Well

ADS is preparing all classes (Grades 1-4) to participate in the Star 360 baseline assessment for both reading and math. This baseline assessment will help teachers assess individual students strengths and weaknesses in both areas at the start of the school year. Grade 4 students will participate in the “Start Strong” state test in early October . This will be a one day assessment (Math/ELA) that has been created in response to the disruption in education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expressly designed to inform instruction by providing educators—as well as parents and guardians—with an early indication of the level of support students may need as they enter a new school year

Richard Butler Middle School. - Mrs. M. Papa, Principal
Welcome back, RBS Bulldogs! We are so very excited to see all of our students back in the building for what is going to be an outstanding year! We must thank all of our staff for helping to prepare RBS for our students: teachers, counselors, CST, custodians, maintenance, and our main office administrative assistant, Mrs. Knox.
This has been an exciting week as we have already been delivering our Advisory Program during homerooms. Students have been building connections with their teachers and each other, along with learning about some of the school-wide expectations. You may have heard that lockers posed a bit of difficulty, but our students have been doing a wonderful job adjusting!
Additionally, we met with each class to play the Birthday Lineup Challenge. Congratulations to our 7th graders as they were the winning grade. We’d like to extend our appreciation to the RBS PTA for supplying ice pops for the winners! After the challenge, we discussed RBS PRIDE: Prepared, Respectful, Inclusive, Determined, & Empathetic. We will continue working with our school community to reinforce these values as we define what it means to be an RBS Bulldog. We have high hopes for our students this year, and we know they will rise to the challenge!
While our RBS teachers have been prioritizing establishing relationships and building classroom communities, they have also been diving right into instruction as they assess our students and move forward with the district’s curricula. We have inspiring and engaging lessons going on in all classes. We are excited for you to see what our students are able to achieve this year, and we have an exemplary staff to support them in reaching their goals!
We are extremely pleased with the arrival of our students this first week. Most students have been getting here on time and ready for homeroom at 7:55am, so thank you to our families! This is just a reminder that we will contact you if tardiness becomes a pattern. As the week has progressed, we are getting more efficient with dismissal. Thank you to our families for following the procedure of coming around Maby Lane to Pearl Place to pick up your children. As a reminder for dismissal time, please do not drive into the parking lot or come into the RBS building unless you have an appointment.
Back to School Night is right around the corner on September 22 at 6:30pm, and we are looking forward to seeing you.
