Level 2 - Identification
Goal:
I can accurately identify different examples of figurative language.
Review
Use the Figurative Language PowerPoint and your notes to review the seven different types of figurative language and examine examples of each type of figurative language.
Practice
See the teacher for the Figurative Language Identification flashcards. On your own or with a partner, practice identifying examples of figurative language. For each flashcard, the front side will contain an example of figurative language and the back side will have the answer. Practice justifying the reason for your choice (For example, I know this is an example of personification because ...). Practice until you feel you can identify examples of the different types of figurative language.
Apply
When you are ready, see the teacher for a Figurative Language Identification practice test. After completing the worksheet, see the teacher for the answer key.
If you can answer the questions correctly, you may take the Figurative Language Identification Assessment. If you did not answer the questions correctly, you will need to complete another review before you can take the assessment.
Assessment
See the teacher for the Figurative Language Identification Assessment to demonstrate you can identify examples of figurative language.
If you can identify the examples of figurative language you can move on to Level 2.5 Explanation. If you can't identify the examples, you will need to do another practice review before assessing again.
