Message from the Principal:
Well the calendar says fall, but I am ready for some fall weather! Can anyone else relate?
Settler's Point has had a great week and a half back from Fall Break! Since we have been back, we have had our new Running Club meet for the first time, and had our very first "Battle of the Books." I am so appreciative of our dedicated teachers that are willing to organize these fun extra curricular events for our students!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are always a great opportunity to sit down and discuss your child's academic and social progress. I like to say that "We are the experts on kids, while you are the expert on your kid." When we partner together, it's ultimately your child that benefits.
I had the opportunity to participate in the latest GPS Town Hall meeting this week, in which we discussed technology integration in the classroom. Just in my first quarter being here we have provided a Google Chromebook for each of our sixth grade students to use. We have also added typing to our computer lab curriculum for kindergarten to sixth grade students.
Next week we will be having a "Game Truck" on campus, and I am anxiously awaiting to be in a "Silly String Fight," with our students. Both of these events are courtesy of our PTSO and were offered as an incentive for our students to participate in our cookie dough fundraiser.
It is my job to serve the parents, students, and staff of Settler's Point. If there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to reach out to me.

Early Parent Pick Up...
This can be problematic for a couple reasons.
- We can't confirm that it really is you on the phone.
- We have students that often times have to wait awhile for their parents (sometimes thirty minutes or more). If you get stuck in traffic, or someone else asks you a question on your way out the door, your child is missing academic time.

Third Grade Spotlight
Third grade has been busy learning about rocks and minerals and investigating their properties. While buddy reading in Daily Five, students are focusing on comprehension strategies. In math, students have been working to measure polygons and learning multiplication strategies and shortcuts. Our fabulous volunteers have done a great job presenting lessons about famous artists and their paintings during Art Masterpiece. Students enjoyed dressing up each day in a different style during Spirit Week.
