MAP testing is scheduled to begin next week. Please be sure to take note of some of our basic reminders below. We have found that a student's overall success on this test is very dependent on their intentional preparation the night before.
Also, our Choir department will be performing Dear Edwina, Jr. starting next week (details below). Please consider joining us for a night of music, lights and excitement on the GMS stage on April 21-22 at 7:00 pm and on April 23 at 2:00 pm. Hope to see you there! Enjoy your weekend!
MAP Testing
The MAP Assessment begins this coming Tuesday, April 19th. All students need to arrive to GMS by 7:30, testing begins promptly at 7:35 am. If students arrive after 7:35, they will be in the gym working on daily work as they will not be permitted to take that days assessment.
Our success of MAP assessment depends on your support, as parents. Please remind your student(s) to:
The Night Before:
- Charge iPad
- 8 hours of Sleep
- Clear calculator of all history put in backpack
- Pack wired earbuds/headphones
- Pencils in back pack
- Pack a water bottle
- Book to Read (e-books will not be allowed during testing sessions)
Morning of Assessment:
- Eat Breakfast
- NO Wireless earbuds/headphones
- NO Smart watches, Fitbit or other internet connected devices will be prohibited in the testing room
- Arrive to school by 7:30 am
- Testing begins 7:35

Upcoming PTSA Meeting
Dear Edwina Jr.
Our choir teacher and students have been hard at work practicing for their up coming show: Dear Edwina Jr.. Join Edwina Spoonapple and her friends as they try to win a ticket to the Kalamazoo Advice-A-Palooza Festival with their weekly production of The Dear Edwina Show! Edwina is a middle school student who has a knack for giving advice. Follow her and her friends as they answer letters from the citizens of Paw Paw, Michigan and give advice on such topics as dealing with siblings, picky eaters, and making friends. The show will run on April 21-22 at 7:00 pm and on April 23 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children 5 and under are free. All shows will be held in our GMS cafetorium. You won’t want to miss this production! Hope to see you there!
Science Olympiad
This past Saturday, Gentry’s Science Olympiad team competed in the state finals at Missouri State University in Springfield. 32 middle school teams from 8 regions competed in 23 different science and engineering events. Gentry’s team placed 7th among all competing teams and was the only CPS school in the top 10. The team of 15 that competed included Sophie Becker (8th), Parker Bedford (7th), Aidin Brothers (7th), Jack Brothers (7th), Nate Brothers (7th), Kishan Gordon (6th), Emrie Gruenberg (7th), Emily Han (8th), Jessly Lemuz-Guerra (8th), Kareena Puri (7th), Carter Quest (7th), Vasumathi Raghavan (8th), Amelia Renaldi (7th), Mira Tosh (8th) and Bella Vizitei (6th).
Individual students also many successes in the various events. Nate Brothers and Emrie Gruenberg placed 1st in the state in Ornithology! Parker Bedford and Bella Vizitei placed 2nd in the state in Rocks and Minerals! Other notable top 10 finishes include:
Anatomy & Physiology (Mira Tosh and Vasu Raghavan) in 7th!
Crave the Wave (Carter Quest and Mira Tosh) in 6th!
Disease Detectives (Jack Brothers and Nate Brothers) in 9th!
Meteorology (Emrie Gruenberg and Kareena Puri) in 9th!
Ping Pong Parachute (Emily Han and Sophie Becker) in 10th!
Sounds of Music (Carter Quest and Jessly Lemuz-Guerra) in 7th!
Storm the Castle (Amelia Renaldi and Emily Han) in 6th!

Fall Cheerleading Tryouts
Cheerleading tryouts for the Fall 2022 squad are coming up April 26th-28th from 2:45-4:30 in the Upstairs Commons. 6th and 7th graders are encouraged to tryout! No cheerleading experience necessary! Students are required to have a MSHSAA physical and commitment/insurance form on file to tryout. They can both be found on the Gentry website. Jaguar Sound
“It’s audition time for Gentry Middle School’s Competitive Show Choir “Jaguar Sound”! If your student will be a 7th or 8th grade student next year and they like to sing, dance, and win trophies, then Jaguar Sound is the group for them! GMS Summer Sports Camps
Gentry Middle School will be hosting various summer sports programs and camps throughout the summer months (June-August) for all incoming 7th and 8th grade students. The developmentally appropriate activities that will be offered are designed and selected by qualified professionals with years of coaching experience to ensure your child's enjoyment.
