Kitley Elementary - November 2014
Principal's Letter
Greetings,
Welcome to November! We have received exciting news at Kitley! The Indiana Department of Education has named Kitley Elementary a Grade A School! I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun Fall Break. Kitley staff is recharged and fired up for our 2nd quarter. We have a busy fall planned and we are looking forward to seeing you in the next upcoming month. Thank you to all of our amazing parent volunteers who assisted with our Fall Parties on a very cold October 31st!
Our annual Veteran’s Day program will be held in the gym on Monday, November 11 at 9:30 A.M. If you have a Veteran in your family, we look forward to honoring them during our ceremony. Please join us for coffee and juice at 9:00 in the LGI if you are a veteran. We are asking all visitors to please sign in this year to add a layer of security to our building. Thank you for stopping at a table and signing in.
It was a joy to meet all of our parents during our Parent/Teacher conferences in October. Thank you so much for attending and strengthening our school-home connection.
Our 4th grade students traveled to Conner Prairie on Friday, October 31st for a field trip. Thank you to the fourth grade teachers for planning this trip. Thank you to our parent volunteers who chaperoned this valuable time with nature.
Our Red Ribbon Week was a HUGE success as our students and staff focused on being drug free. Thank you to Mrs. McCafferty and Miss Vicars for planning our week of dress ups, lessons, and activities. Kitley staff continues to instill philanthropy and values into our curriculum to build the whole child. If you are interested in assisting us in our cause, just let us know! As always, if you need assistance, feel free to call at 803-5900. R.O.A.R.!! We are Respectful, Organized, Aiming High and Responsible!
Always learning,
Mrs. Schoene

So when cleaning out your closets, why not donate the clothes to the SPARC Center instead of other donation centers? To donate items, simply bring them to Kitley and place them in the big blue SPARC Center bin located in the front office area. Again, thank you to everyone who donated food!

Everyday Mathematics at Home
Have your child create tally marks in batches of five until you say “Stop.” Then skip count by 5’s to see how many marks were written
Let your child count the dollars and coins in your wallet. Together, brainstorm the items you can buy.
Write down decimals for your child to read aloud, such as 0.32 (thirty-two hundredths) or 0.9 (nine-tenths).
6+1 Traits of Writing at Home:
The need to write every day can be easily compared to the need to exercise. In order to grow up healthy, kids need physical activity and exercise. In order to improve as a writer, your child needs to write. Writing every day will directly affect your child’s skills. His/her spelling and punctuation will improve, and his/her details will get more specific. Writing more often will give your child more practice with these skills.
