Close Reading Ideas

  • Don't forget to add Kagan structures to your normal routine and lesson plans. You should at least be using one structure a day by the end of this six weeks. I am ordering the "one pager" for every teacher on the 10 most effective strategies.
  • You should have received Math posters for your classroom with our district math strategies. Please find a place for them in your classroom that will be visible for students to reference.
  • Start building you interactive word wall for this six weeks.

Above the Line

“The performance of a team rises or falls on behavior. The simple truth is that getting and staying above the line is the foundation of success in anything you do—work, school, football, and life. Every day is a battle for whether we choose to live Above the Line or Below the Line. The choice we make determines how we treat the people we love, how we interact with colleagues at work, how we do our job, how we learn and grow, how we deal with adversity and disappointment, and ultimately what we achieve.”


Above the Line behavior is conscious and thoughtful. Below the Line behavior is impulsive and reactionary. Ironically, some schools are so preoccupied with pushing for results that they fail to build a culture that sustains the behavior that produces results. We have have committed to having an intentional culture at Holiday Heights that is focused on staying Above the Line by each of us being reflective and solutions driven.

Winning behavior will not thrive in a culture that does not support it.

Our goal is simply to serve our students in the highest possible way so they may have the education to be able to accomplish anything they set out to do in their future. I know the only way we can fulfill this dream is by working as one team.

  • We still only have one cafeteria monitor. If you know of a parent or someone else that is interested, please let Nicole know.

  • Office Depot has $200 grants that you can apply at aid4edu.org if you would like to try for a gift card.
  • Home Depot also will usually give gift cards to teachers, just write them a letter with the details about the project you are building and the materials needed to the store manager.
  • It is imperative that you get your attendance completed as close to 10:00 as possible and no later than 10:20! If we get audited, it can "hurt" us if our attendance is not correct. Email Pam with any needed corrections.
  • If you have not updated your website please do so immediately with at least the following: Current picture, class name, grade, contact information, and class schedule. As we progress through the year, I would like for you to add a student tab where students can go to access important information for your class such as useful websites, homework help, etc.
  • Class Mission Statements should be up by this time of the year, please refer to the email about the guiding class questions for the basics. If you need any assistance, please let us know.
  • Please make sure your voice message is set and updated for this year.
  • Our first Art/PLC is this week on September 8th. You will need your data binders and class lists.

SafeSchools Training

Birdville ISD is using SafeSchoolsTM.com to offer training courses online for your convenience. Follow these easy steps to complete your Birdville ISD safety training requirements:

Using your web browser, Go to the SafeSchoolsTM website for Birdville ISD: http://birdville.tx.safeschools.com/

Enter your Username: (employee ID number with no leading zeros)

Once you log into the site, click on a course title to begin the training. Each course has audio, so be sure to turn up your speakers if you'd like to listen. You must complete each section of the course in order to receive full credit.

BISD’s Support Portal

The FACILITIES MANAGEMENT (formerly Buildings and Grounds) and TECHNOLOGY departments would like to share an exciting and important change with you that we believe will help make the process of getting facilities and/or technology work items done easier and more efficiently. All employees can now access BISD’s Support Portal, where the work request systems for Facilities Management and Technology are located.



Simply click on the Technology or Facilities Management icon to access the respective work request form(s). Click the red “Submit a Ticket” button located in the upper right corner of the screen. Next, complete and submit the form. Once received, email updates about the completion status of your request will be sent to you from the appropriate department.


You may access the Support Portal at Birdville ISD Support Portal or http://birdvilleschools.net/support.
