The first successful steamboat trail of a forty-five-foot steamboat on the Delaware River on August 22, 1787 by John Fitch . The engines that are on steamboats were invented by James Watt. The steamboat was the first motorized boat.
Steamboats could travel faster than normal boats. They could go through or against river currents without having to wait for proper wind.
Steamboat were expensive to build and maintain in the 1900. They were also dangerous because the designs for the boats weren't very sturdy

Steamboats were important because they provided a faster means to carry people and cargo, faster and farther than by land.
