Updates from the Principal
Greetings Firebird Nation Families -
What an exciting first week back! It was awesome to see all of our students back at FMS! We look forward to the last 8 weeks of the year and continuing to have our students in the building! Our return this week was featured on KOAA News 5; feel free to check out the story below. Overall, students enjoyed getting to see all of their friends along with being back in the building all together. We look forward to working together and finishing this school year strong!
Even with being back at 100%, it is important for all of us to be mindful that we are still working through requirements related to COVID-19. Please remember that if your students are experiencing any COVID related symptoms that it is important that they stay home. We also ask that you let our Health Office team know so that we can provide additional information. Quarantine situations are difficult on everyone and we want to make sure we can do everything we can to avoid having anyone placed on a quarantine. Students must still wear masks, practice physical distancing, and wash their hands throughout the day.
We started our next season of Intramural sports this week! It was awesome to see the Football, Volleyball, and 6th Grade Wrestling/Fitness Camps taking place. I can definitely tell that our students were excited to be involved in these programs and that they were already working on many skill development areas. This season will last for another 3 weeks before we begin our final athletics season of the year. If you have any questions about athletics, please contact my Athletic Director, Elena Forehand, using the links at the bottom of this email.
We will be sharing our CMAS Testing Schedule with you in the next week. We are about to open the testing window and will ensure families that desired CMAS testing have this opportunity over the next several weeks. We will communicate with you further once we know which days students will be testing. Students that were opted out of testing will continue working on their grade level content with their teachers and teams. We will have a better idea of what this will all look like in the week ahead.
I hope everyone enjoys this coming weekend! It looks like we are going to have some outstanding weather! Have a great weekend and I look forward to another great week with all of our students next week!
Sincerely,
Brian Smith

Traffic Pattern Reminders
We ask for everyone to please use slower speeds and additional caution as they travel around FMS each day. We want to keep everyone safe as they arrive and depart FMS each day. Students must only cross at designated crosswalks and not run in between traffic.
We have made a slight adjustment to our dismissal configuration. You will notice that when you first enter our parking lot off of Towner, that there is an entrance designated for the parking area. Please do not block this entrance. The "double lane" will begin immediately after this entrance. We will have signs and security out front for the first few days to assist with this change.
One tip: All of our traffic in the afternoon is typically cleared out by 3:15. So, if you want to drive right in and pick up your student without all of the traffic, look to come to FMS around 3:15.
