Good Things
As I went around our district the past couple of days, I saw lots of smiles and students and staff excited. It's always fun to see the differences between schools. The high school is quiet as students take finals and are generally calm. The middle school is a combination of both as some classes take finals but other classes have end of semester holiday parties. Now the intermediate and elementary schools are nothing but a bunch of kids hopped up on sugar!
But those elementary parties are so fun and those are memories that will last a lifetime. I'll never forget some of the presents I got from other classmates when I was in school. I think the best present I got from another student was a G.I. Joe vehicle and the worst present I ever got was a stapler. I remember the holiday games and us wrapping each other in wrapping paper and balancing eggs on spoons as we walked the hallways. While academics are our priority, we also have to make these types of memories with our students and our staff. Everyday we have a chance to make an impact and parties like these can do just that. You can see a few fun pictures below. Thanks for all your support and everything you do.
Calendar Survey Update
So we have finished the calendar survey and 64% or 198 people voted in favor of the Option 2 calendar and 36% or 111 people voted in favor of the Option 1 calendar. So I will be bringing the Option 1 calendar to the board unless something changes. You can see the Option 2 calendar by clicking here.
Wednesday Night January Jam
So I got a call from Chad Wilmott this week about our January Jam basketball tournament. Unfortunately, both Coffeyville and Garden City have dropped out of the tournament. We have been unable to find two teams to take up these spots and so we are left with a six team tournament.
Due to this we need to make the tournament a pool play tournament and games need to be played on Wednesday. I know this isn't ideal but there is not another way since WIchita Southeast has a City League game on Tuesday night. I gave permission to Chad to make this happen because otherwise we would have to cancel the tournament. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Schools For Fair Funding (SFFF) Update
I received the Schools For Fair Funding materials. Please remember that these materials should not be shared with anyone outside of our district as they are just for the SFFF schools. I'm linking them below and please let me know if you have any questions about them.
2nd Semester Course Addition @ VCHS
The class is from 8:00 - 8:50 daily and we will either have a para transport or the students will attend virtually. Right now we just have 1 student signed up, but are looking at 1 other student potentially. The dilemma is that it's a new class so it would need to be board approved. However, we don't have another board meeting until the January. So if you're OK with it, we are going to go ahead and start the student or students in this class and just have you approve it at the January meeting unless you have concerns with us starting it. Please let me know if you have any questions about this or if it doesn't make sense.
Bond Community Meetings
I envision the format being stations set up around the room. One area for the architect, one are for finance and one area for the school district. People can then rotate around the room in whatever way they would like and ask questions. I think this would give a more personal feel to meeting and really more of a conversation than someone presenting information. Let me know what you think about this and any ideas you may have about it.
