~ IMPORTANT NOTES ~
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
This was another great week at Cambridge School! Today, we will be celebrating Halloween with a parade and parties. Thank you to Officer Rausch and the South Brunswick Police Department for coordinating the parade. In addition, thank you to all of the room parents for your organization of what I am sure will be wonderful parties.
As a special gift, the South Brunswick Athletic Association, donated mini stress baseballs to every child. Their registration campaign, "Have a Ball...Join a Team", is designed to get children involved in team sports, specifically baseball and softball. Be sure to read the information on the Friday Folder link.
Next week begins our fall conference days. Please be sure to arrive on time for your child's conference. If you have to make any adjustments or if there is an emergency, please contact the main office as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful and safe weekend!
Mrs. Capes :)
HONOR A TEACHER!!
The VFW sponsors a Teacher of the Year award program. The deadline for nominations is submission by November 1 to the local VFW (ours is Post 9711/VFW Post 9111 and Representative Donald S. Bollinger would assist.)
VFW Teacher of the Year categories: K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Please consider nominating a teacher from Cambridge! While the deadline is very soon, it would be a great honor for a teacher.
http://www.vfw.org/TeacheroftheYear/
Eligibility: All current classroom teachers in grades K-12 are eligible. Previous state and national VFW winners are ineligible. Nominations can be submitted by fellow teachers, supervisors or other interested individuals (not relatives).

We are collecting *NEW* socks, as part of the SOCKTOBER event that will help homeless people across the united states. Please send in *new* socks to support this initiative! We will collect from October 6th - October 31st.
"Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, SoulPancake and Kid President want 2 million people to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless."

From the Health Office
10 Steps to Your Healthiest School Year Ever!
- Get back on schedule. It’s difficult to give up the summer schedule but it’s important to re-establish a reasonable bed time. Start a regular meal time schedule too.
- Start off strong with a healthy breakfast. A good breakfast provides energy and will help keep you alert and attentive in class. Highly sugared foods leave you feeling tired soon after eating. School performance is related to what you eat.
- Drink plenty of water. Water is the best fluid to stay hydrated without the added sugar found in some juices and soft drinks. Remember to also drink the recommended amount of milk.
- Don’t forget to wash your hands often. Keep hands away from the face, mouth, and nose where germs can enter your body.
- Boost your immune system. Get plenty of sleep, eat colorful fruits and vegetables every day and wash your hands often.
- Eat a nutritious and yummy lunch. Choose foods from all the food groups. Different food groups supply the body with energy to think, move and grow.
- Cut back on sugar and salty snacks. Limit soda, sport drinks, candy, chips and ice cream-they add on extra calories, can harm your teeth and leave you feeling weak and tired.
- Enhance your brain performance. Exercise, play memory games, do puzzles, and eat brain foods like berries, cold water fish and nuts. Just say “NO” to fast food and enjoy a home cooked meal with your family at least 4 nights a week.
- Get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day-at recess and at home. Go for a daily walk with a parent, a friend or your pet. Exercise helps the body be strong, flexible, and resilient.
- Turn off the TV and video games at least one hour prior to bedtime. Take time to relax, take a bath or shower, brush your teeth and pack up for the morning.
