Welcome Back!

Dear GHS Families:

Welcome to the 19-20 school year! It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to the new school year!

This year our Seniors will be the 103rd Graduating Class of Gilbert High School! We have been busy getting the campus ready for our students and we have completed hiring our new staff for the new year. As our students enjoy their last few weeks of their summer vacation, here are a few reminders to help ensure a smooth start to our academic year:

Please check the email that went home on Thursday, July 11, 2019, for information on how to access your student's schedule and make any changes.

Our Freshmen Orientation will be held in the GHS Gymnasium on Friday, July 26, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Note that the first day of school is Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Our Annual Back to School Night will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We will have a modified bell schedule for the evening so that you can follow your student's schedule. The Open House Night will conclude at 7:30 p.m.

Last year's Senior Class of 2019 left a lasting mark here at GHS in many positive ways. I am looking forward to a new school year and to serving the students and families here at GHS.

As always, I expect our students to be positive reflections of our community and our high expectations. Their academic success and their behavior will continue to shed a positive light on our campus community. Please help set your student on a path to success by helping emphasize being organized, staying on top of their schoolwork, and to embrace the challenges that the school year will bring.

STUDENT SCHEDULES & CHANGES

A copy of your student’s schedule can be accessed in the Infinite Campus Student and/or Parent Portal. Please note that alternative classes may be listed in place of what your student(s) requested due to the following reasons:

 Student did not meet course prerequisite(s)

 Course availability restrictions

 Conflict(s) in the student’s schedule Schedule changes can be made for the following reasons only:

 Missing a class period during the day

 Missing a prerequisite course

 Missing a course needed for graduation

 Missing a lunch period

 Completed a summer school or online course for a class that is listed on the schedule


Note: No teacher, elective class, or lunch hour changes will be made. No level changes can be made until after the first 4 ½ weeks of the semester. If a schedule change is necessary, please use the following dates to request a schedule change.

CALL-IN SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUESTS:


Grade 12 - Thursday, July 18th and Monday, July 22nd 12th

Grade 11 - Tuesday, July 23rd and Wednesday, July 24th 11th

Grade 10 - Thursday, July 25th and Friday, July 26th 10th

Grade 9 - Monday, July 29th 9th


Call (480) 497-0177, enter 3 and listen for the next prompt. Leave your name, your student’s full name, student identification number and the following message: “I am requesting a schedule change and I can be reached at [Phone Number].” Please do not leave any other details. Due to the number of calls, counselors will be receiving, please leave only one message and allow five days for a return call from the GHS Counseling Department.

Policy Change for Dropped Off Items

The front desk can no longer accept money or other valuable items such as cell phones or laptops to hold for your student. Medical devices will be accepted in the health office.

Drop Off/Pick Up Information

Parents, please remember to use the parent drop-off loop in the morning and after school. Drop off or pick up is not permitted in the faculty lot on the west side of campus as this is used by students who walk and for bus transportation purposes. For everyone’s safety, please use the loop between campus and Elliot Road just north of the building.
