Updates from our Principal
Dear Firebird Nation:
What an amazing final week of the school year! We have so many things to celebrate here at Falcon Middle School. Let’s work backward.
Friday, some of our 8th grade students returned to pass the torch to our 7th graders. Now our 7th grade group will be our leaders next year. I know they will definitely be awesome leaders, helping our incoming 6th graders. It was an amazing end to a very busy week.
Secondly, a huge shout-out to our 8th grade students. Thursday dawned cold, foggy, and to be honest, pretty dreary. As we set up for our promotion ceremony, we wondered if we had made the right call to keep the ceremony outside. We continued to prepare. We got the students lined up to walk out to the stadium. As we walked the students out, the sun broke through the clouds and seemed to shine down on the kids. It was perfect! Thank you to all of the parents and guests who showed up to support their students. Thank you to all the 8th grade teachers and their hard work with our 8th graders. Thank you to all the teachers and staff members who worked diligently to organize and prepare for our promotion. I could go on and on, but just know I appreciate all the hard work. You all made FMS look amazing.
Wednesday concluded our chromebook check-in. It was 3 very busy days. Thank you to all of our reading teachers who guided our students to prepare their chromebooks for check-in. Thank you as well to Mrs. Wiley, Mr. Montgomery, and Mrs. Arnot who took it from there and finished the check-in. They checked in over 900 chromebooks in 3 days! Great job! If your
student did not return their chromebook or charger, please have your student turn items into
the front office by June 7th. Office hours are 8 am - 2 pm.
Students have supported their teachers this week as many of our teachers are having to move rooms this next year due to the opening of the Falcon Middle School Annex (FMSA). Thank you to all of the students who have helped their teachers who have supported you all throughout the year. I know they appreciate it greatly.
To all Falcon Middle School Firebirds, I am so proud of each and every one of you. You have grown and learned and achieved. You never cease to amaze me. You never cease to challenge me. You always make me laugh. Thank you to our 8th graders. I can’t wait to see what you do at Falcon High School. To all our 6th and 7th graders, have a great summer; rest, relax, and have some fun. Come back in August ready to continue on your educational path. I look forward to the growth you will make next year.
Have an amazing summer and remember, “Once a Firebird, always a Firebird!”

From Nurse Nelda
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please take a moment to read the following information regarding preparation for next school year.
Medication Policy: Colorado State law governs our medication policy. If your student must take medication during school hours, we must have the following before it can be administered at school:
A written physician’s order (including drug name, dose, route, time, duration of treatment, physician signature and parent/guardian signature). This includes all over-the-counter, prescription, and/or homeopathic medications. Medication forms are located at D49.org/ our services/ nursing services.
Medication must be in the original container, complete with a pharmacy label that matches the current written physician signed medical order(s).
Medications are kept in a secure cabinet in the health office. If a student must self-carry a medication such as: inhaler, Epi-Pen, or diabetic supplies, a physician order is required, along with the self-carry contract signed by parent/guardian, student, and school RN.
Medication orders must be renewed annually and do not carry over from year to year.
Action Plans for Asthma, Severe Allergy requiring an Epinephrine device, Diabetes, or Seizure Disorders must be updated annually by a medical provider. Please contact the School Health Office if you need assistance or need a new form for this school year.
Immunizations: Colorado State law requires all students to be up-to-date on school required immunizations and/or have a written exemption form on file at the school.
Important: As of July 1, 2021 there are two ways to submit a non-medical exemption:
1. Submit the Certificate of Non-Medical Exemption with a signature from an immunizing provider who is a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse or physician’s assistant.
-OR-
2. Submit the Certificate of Non-medical Exemption received upon the completion of Colorado Health Department’s Online Immunization Education Module. https://cdphe.colorado.gov/vaccine-exemptions
All non-medical exemptions expire June 30th each year and must be resubmitted the following school year.
Illness Guidelines: School District 49 complies with the most current Colorado Department of Health and Environment guidelines. Updates may occur prior to the start of school year 2023-24.
If you have any questions, concerns, or specific information for either of us, please contact us at (719) 495-5227. All above information and health services forms can be found at https://www.d49.org/nursingservices

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
We have made it to the end of our construction updates for the year! Construction is just about complete…less than 2 weeks to go on the expansion! All of the interior work is pretty much complete. Teams are completing their walkthroughs and identifying anything that needs to be fixed. We expect our inspections to take place over the next couple of weeks. Crews are working to finish the outdoor recreation areas for the 6th grade recess and athletics. New furniture will start arriving and get installed in all of the areas over the next three weeks. Once school ends, there is just one final project to complete…the removal of the dividing wall! The wall you see in this picture will be coming down during the first two weeks of June so that the new wing and the existing Bennett Ranch building can officially join together as one new campus complex. Bennett Ranch Elementary will serve all BRES PreK - 5th Grade Students. The new Falcon Middle Annex will service the 6th grade students from FMS. Over the summer, new signage will be getting installed to help with branding on all of the different areas. We will also be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the start of the new year. Thanks for all of your support as we completed this exciting new construction on the Firebird Nation Campus!
