Scarborough Middle School

Family Newsletter for 12-17-2021

Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,

During the school day, middle school students will occasionally need to visit the school clinic for a change of clothing. It has recently come to our attention the clinic closet of available clothing items is nearly empty. To replenish the clinic closet, our nurses are looking for donations of gently used clothing items, specific needs are pants, t-shirts, and sweatshirts in adult and larger youth sizes. If families have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our school nurses.

On another note, with a shortened week ahead of us, there will not be a newsletter next week. We want to take the opportunity now to extend our wishes that you are all able to enjoy the upcoming winter break from school with your families.

During the week before Winter Break, December 20-22, the state will not be conducting pooled testing in any Maine schools.

If close contacts who are enrolled in weekly pool testing are identified from a school exposure during this period, there is a plan in place that involves rapid-antigen testing to keep these students in school and will be communicated more in depth if that situation arises. We will resume pooled testing the Tuesday (January 5) following Winter Break.

It is important that you make sure you register your child as soon as possible so that the department has sufficient time to look over all registration prior to the start of the season. Registering your child late may hinder their ability to participate on the first day and may result in not getting further communication regarding your child's sport(s).

  • Swim, Wrestling & Indoor Track - Monday, February 7, 2022

*Schedule for sports games and practices, when activated, may be found here ⇢ these schedules can always be found at this link.

Scarborough Middle School Families,

We would like to, first, applaud our middle school student body for their attendance and support for the middle school basketball teams thus far in the season. For our first two home basketball contests we have had a good number of students come out to cheer on their school counterparts, this shows great school pride.

As you may know Scarborough Public Schools has a masking policy in which any individual (regardless of vaccination status) must be masked at all times inside any SPS building. While in attendance at after school events, our student body has been good about following this policy, with the exception of bringing food items into the gym. We have noticed that students who have been without their masks for any particular amount of time have done so because of consuming these food items.

To further allow student spectators at these events and to continue to offer a safe environment, this is something we must remedy. Moving forward, we will not be allowing food or drink inside the middle school gym. Exception to this policy is for student-athletes to drink water as needed during activity by lowering their mask briefly.

In an effort to continue to create a safe environment for after school events with spectators and to continue to allow students to support, show school pride and grow school spirit we ask that you share the above information with your child if they plan on attending an after school event. These guidelines should be closely followed by your child.

We appreciate your help and support as we move forward! As always GO STORM🌩!!

Dear Parents and Families:

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

After missing out on many beloved traditions, our fall Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from December 14 to December 20 at Scarborough Middle School.

  • Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It’s a convenient digital account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute, too!

  • If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop online at our school’s Virtual Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Happy reading,
