Our class theme is COLTS. We are asking you to donate an item or items related to the class theme. Some ideas include: jersey, shirt, sweatshirt, football, mug, key chain, pillow, blanket, game, etc. that is COLTS related.

If you don't want to shop, send a check made out to CRES PTO with 'theme baskets' in the memo section and PTO will do the shopping for you.

Reading Workshop

We are finishing Unit 6: Fairy Tales/Folktales/Fables. This past week we started our Reader's Theater on fables - The Tortoise & the Hare, Fox & the Stork, The Little Red Hen, Lion and the Mouse, and Ant & the Grasshopper. The students are learning how a reader's theater should look and sound. Readers using expression, show character's feelings, act as if they are the character with their voice & body, and speak clear & loud. The students will make props and bring in costumes for their character. They will present on Friday :)

Word Study

We will continue to study CONTRACTIONS - two words put together with some letters taken out and connected by an apostrophe. Contractions are shorter ways to say two words. We will focus on the words with not and is. For example, have + not = haven't and she + is = she's .

Sight Words:

Writing Workshop

We will be writing our very own Fable! We have been working hard over the past couple weeks reading and studying fables. Now we will be brainstorming animal characters to use in our story along with a setting, problem, and solution for our fable. We will also be adding in a lesson that the character will learn in our fable.

We are continuing our Unit over Time for the next several weeks. We are going to continue to work on telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. We will be stopping to look at the clock throughout the day and writing down the time. We will also be making a timeline of our day :)

We are starting to collect data for our Weather Unit by measuring the temperature and taking picture of the cloud cover. In 1 week, we will begin our Project Based Learning Unit over Weather and bring in a meteorologist to share about their job. If you or anyone you know has expertise in the field of weather, please let me know. I would love to have you help and share during this unit. The students will also be needing a composition notebook for this unit. Please bring one in by March 13th.
