Reading is like falling off a rock for some…..and like climbing a never ending mountain for others. This learning opportunity is designed to help educators better support students with vocabulary development and reading comprehension. The strategies demonstrated will support student engagement, facilitate formative assessment, and teach to the highest levels of Bloom's Taxonomy and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge
- Understand what rigor is and what it is not
- Understand how to plan academically rigorous lessons while working with students of varying ability levels
- Understand the instructional changes necessary for students to be college and career ready
- Utilize strategies that support students as they pursue academic independence

About the Facilitator
Judy is the author of nine books designed to assist teachers with instructional practices and is a regular presenter for the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. She is the lead trainer for the Ed Leaders Network on Restorative Practices and Classroom Management and has developed a series of interactive video training programs with the Illinois Principals Association on this topic. Judy’s understanding of academic engagement and restorative practices, as well her practical and pragmatic approach for supporting student behavior in a manner that protects everyone’s dignity, is recognized by educators throughout the United States.
