Principal's Message
It’s hard to believe that this was the last full week of school for the 2020-2021 school year! It certainly hasn’t been what anybody could have ever imagined going through school in a pandemic. I appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility through this year, as it required many new undertakings by staff, students, and parents. We are thankful to have been able to maintain in person learning through the year’s challenges. As we finish up the last three days next week a couple reminders below.
Grade reports for quarter 4 are currently scheduled to go out on Friday, May 28th.
Distance learners need to return school devices next week Monday-Wednesday sometime at the main office.
8th grade students are turning their chromebooks in on Monday, May 24th. They will need both the device and the charger.
Counselor's Corner:
8th grade students on free and reduced lunch have only 1 more month to apply for the 21st Century Scholars program. This is the program that will pay up to 100% of college or trade school tuition after high school. The only "catch" is that they have to enroll by June 30th of their 8th grade year. This program then monitors and supports them throughout high school. Mrs. Wilson will assist you in enrolling your student if you are having difficulties. The enrollment site is found at: www.scholars.in.gov

Great Opportunities at Achaius Ranch
Thanks to a generous grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation, The Achaius horse ranch in Ladoga is offering free horse riding, animal care and self confidence programming this summer. Students can select a day of the week that works best for their families schedule and then are allowed to come to the ranch from 9-12 on that day (example Wednesdays) for 7 weeks for FREE. This starts the week of June 7th. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in something good over the summer. Contact CMS science teacher Susan Belt at 614-307-1905 or the ranch owner Elisha McCulloh at 765-376-9535. Mrs. Wilson has information available in the guidance office. This is for students ages 8-18.
Sherrif's Youth Leadership Camp
Male and Female 7th and 8th grade students:
The sheriff's association will be sponsoring two sessions of the Sheriff's youth leadership camp this summer for students currently in 7th or 8th grade. If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, you may want to pick up an application in the guidance office. Camps are from June 28th- July 1st and July 6th-8th.
See Mrs. Wilson in the guidance department for more information, or to pick up an applications.
Strengthen Skills, Build Confidence, Enjoy Reading
These programs teach key reading skills for every grade, from phonics and sight words for younger children, to comprehension, textbook strategies and writing skills for older kids, and everything in between.
Guided by a knowledgeable and supportive teacher, students in these programs experience reading success again and again, developing their skills and building confidence in outstanding books at the right level of challenge for each age.
Your child will build the skills, confidence, and motivation he or she needs to become an avid, enthusiastic reader, who enjoys reading for school and for pleasure.
How the Programs Work
Your child will attend weekly live online classes that build skills and provide great experiences with terrific books – books that are filled with interesting characters, exciting storylines, and engaging themes. Between classes, your child will practice reading and complete fun interactive lessons that develop core skills and build confidence.
An Institute of Reading Development teacher will provide all the support and instruction your child needs to grow as a reader and student. Your child will get a jumpstart on the next school year and be ready to make it a big success!
