The name of this species is the Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel, it is an endangered species. Another name for the northern squirrels are Glaucomys Sabrinus.

These flying squirrels are found in the mountain region and tend to leave in cool and moist areas. They also stay in areas where there are northern hardwoods, which are trees, an example of a northern hardwood tree is a Yellow Birch.
