Get to know one of my inspirations~

Today, March 3rd, is the Feast day of St. Katharine Drexel. St. Katharine was born in Philadelphia (1858) to a wealthy family. Contrary to the times, both parents encouraged their daughters to think of the family's wealth not as their own, but as a gift from God which was to be used to help others. Indeed, she went on to found an order of sisters dedicated to serving the impoverished African American and American Indian populations of the United States. Between 1891 and 1935 she and her order created and led almost 60 schools and missions, located primarily in the American West and Southwest. Among the prominent achievements of Drexel and her order is New Orleans' Xavier University, the only historically black Catholic college in the U.S.

What a joyful and holy woman to honor as we move from Black History Month into Women's History Month.

St. Katharine Drexel, pray for us and for Wauwatosa Catholic School.
