What is it and how does it affect us?

Developing A Healthy Self-Esteem

Self-esteem refers to the level of confidence in one's own worth and abilities. As parents, helping our children develop a healthy self-esteem is one of the most important things we do. Self-esteem ultimately effects all aspects of their life: how they problem solve, how they interact with friends, how they handle difficult situations, how loved they feel, and their approach to new situations in life.

Self compassion: an inner dialog tool

One of the best ways to boost over all self esteem is to teach kids how to speak to themselves compassionately. We all speak to ourselves throughout the day, but for many our own self-talk can be negative, thus propelling a negative self view. We have to help kids treat themselves kindly. See below article for more info:
It is important to help children understand that what they see on television, movies, or other forms of advertisement is not always reality. Having open discussions with your children can promote healthy self identity, and increase their ability to differentiate between the factual and embellished material they encounter in the media.
