Dear parents of Beck Junior High 8th grade students,
On May 6 & 7 we will be administering STAAR Science and Social Studies respectively, to our F2F and KVA students. If you have already notified Mr. Shukis via the May STAAR Schedule Google Form that your KVA student will “Choose Not To Participate” then no further action from you is required and you can disregard this message.
To our upcoming testers here is our best advice for STAAR Day:
- Get a good night sleep.
- Bring only a book to read, snacks (non-messy such as goldfish or crackers), bottle of water. That’s it. We will provide everything else. If your student has any electronics we will take them up before testing and return them after all testing is completed.
- Have a healthy breakfast (breakfast is free on campus on STAAR day).
- Do your best!!!!!
KVA students are allowed to leave campus after they have finished testing, and they have been either signed out, or the front office has been notified they are allowed to walk/ride home.
Good luck to our Science and Social Studies testers!!!!!

If you were issued a textbook please remember to return them no later than 5.27.
Device Return
BJH is now collecting all devices checked out during the year. Please feel free to go ahead and return your device before the end of school if you do not have a further educational need for it. ALL devices must be turned in by the last day of school.
If your student is F2F, please have them turn their device in to Ms. Pruitt in the library. If your studentis KVA, please drop it off on in the foyer of the school on the cart labeled device return. We are asking you to label the device with the student’s name that is turning the device in. Labels will be available on the cart to write your students name and then stick on the device.
Athletics
CRHS will be having summer SAC Camp(Strength & Conditioning). Information and where to sign up can be found in the handout. This is an optional camp for any incoming 7th grade thru 12th grade student who is interested in increasing their strength and overall endurance throughout the summer in preparation for the upcoming school year. Please read through the attached form and get signed up if you're interested. Information about Skills Sessions is also on the form with contact information.
This is a great, affordable camp for current and incoming athletes. If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Corn(girls) or Coach Radke(boys).
Katy ISD offers physicals starting in May thru August if you would like to use this option.(dates and locations in the packet) A family may choose to use their own doctor as well.
Any student planning on trying out/participating in a sport and/or are enrolled in the Athletic period will need to complete the Online forms as well through Rank One Sports. Forms may be submitted starting on Monday, April 26th, 2021. Please do not do them any sooner as the system will be wiped clean before the 26th. Instructions on how to submit the online forms are attached. Please let me know if you have any questions.
To any 7th & 8th girl interested in trying out for the 2021 Volleyball teams:
Attached is the Tryout schedule, physical/Rank1 online form information, a QR code to sign up for tryouts, and suggested skills to work on.
Be sure you fill out the google form to tryout out so the Coaches know you intend to be there.
Parents & players will need to download the SportsYou app and join the group 2021 VB Tryouts with the code HSL8GL4H. Coach Godwin will be sending out information/reminders/updates throughout the summer about tryouts and you don’t want to miss out.
There will be 4 skill session/open gyms available prior to tryouts. During these sessions players will be working with Volleyball Coaches to help prepare for tryouts. These are not mandatory and do not go towards tryouts.
Players cannot participate in any of the skills sessions or tryouts without completing the required UIL physical and Rank1 forms. Do not wait until the last minute to get these forms complete/submitted, as it takes time for the HS Trainers to approve all forms.
Questions about physicals/online forms, contact Coach Corn @ kristijcorn@katyisd.org
Questions about Volleyball, contact Coach Godwin @ juliasgodwin@katyisd.org
8th Grade Parents and Athletes, CRHS will be having our annual “Meet the Coaches” night the week of May 10th. While we usually do this in our competition gym each year, it is currently undergoing renovations and unavailable. Instead we will be doing zoom calls for all of our sports. The goal of these meetings is to inform you about our athletic programs and answer any questions you have as your son/daughter enters 9th grade in ’21-’22. The attachment includes zoom dates, times, links and contact information for the sport(s) your child is interested in. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Radke or Coach Corn.

"No one is alone"... If you have not heard from a committee chair and you've already signed up, that is my fault (Anna Marsh), as I'm not a great volunteer chair (apologies). Reach out to them directly and get connected, or contact me after next Tuesday and we can get you into one of the "OPEN" roles, or otherwise connected.
