No Place for Hate
Red Ribbon Week
The Red Ribbon became a symbol for drug prevention in 1985, in response to the murder of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Informed Families started the first county-wide Red Ribbon campaign in 1986. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Week® celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Since that time, the campaign has reached millions of U.S. children and families.

Red Ribbon week is October 25-29th. Stay tuned for more information next month!

Career Exploration
PAWS in Jobland: Use the district access code AK01773.
Students go to the website and click on Jobland. In Jobland, students can choose buildings and careers to explore.
-
What are some of the careers in the building?
-
Did you find any jobs that interest you?
-
If so, what did you like about them? If not, what did you not like about them?
We invite students to wear college shirts, military, first responder, or any t-shirt that represents their future career each Wednesday for ”What do you want to be Wednesday”. The focus of Den Time each Wednesday will cover one of the four High School Endorsements. An endorsement is a broad area of study that a high school student chooses in addition to the (FHSP) curriculum requirements.
The first week of each section will introduce the Endorsement. We would love for our parents to record a brief Flip Grid stating their name, their career, and a one sentence description of their career. You can make your video fun by including your uniform, office, or a special vehicle you drive! These videos will be shown at the beginning of Den Time during the introduction week for each endorsement.

School Counseling Services
At Groves Elementary our students, will benefit from our comprehensive counseling program through a variety of activities such as personalized meetings with the counselor, classroom guidance lessons, social emotional learning activities, Red Ribbon Week, responsive services (small group and individual counseling opportunities) and career development activities. We are both here to serve all students; however, in order to meet the needs of our students and their families we do work primarily with designated grade levels. Mrs. Frutos will work primarily with students in first, third, and fifth grade while Mrs. Egan will work primarily with students in kindergarten, second, and fourth grade. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need further support for your child(ren) or your family.
