Mount Vernon High School Weekly Update

From Mr. Will

MVHS Parents/Guardians,

My very best to each of you as we begin to head into the heart of Fall and beginning of winter. The leaves changing are so very beautiful and the crispness of the air is very welcoming in the mornings.

Starting October 19th we will be back to having students in the classroom five days a week. What does this mean? I have posted an addendum to our original COVID Student Handbook Addendum on the High School page. Many of the guidelines we have will remain in place with the exception of locker use and lunchroom seating.

Students will be able to use their lockers to store their jacket/coat and their lunch, if packing. Locker use will be before 1st period, at lunch if needed to get their lunchbox/bag, and at the conclusion of the day(after 10th period) to retrieve these items to leave the building. Lockers MAY NOT be used between classes to discourage congregating in the hallways.

We have a capacity of 160 students with proper distancing in the cafeteria. We will provide seating in the gymnasium for up to 100 students with proper physical distancing from each other. Gymnasium seating will be available for our students that pack their lunch and will not be going through the traditional line.

Mask Reminder

Students are still required to wear masks that cover their nose and mouth and students will maintain 3ft. social distancing with masks in the classroom. Masks are also required in hallways/office areas.

Restroom Capacity

Three students in the restroom at a time for proper physical distancing.

My very best to each of you as we continue to navigate through 2020 together. Do not hesitate to reach out with your concerns and questions.

My contact information is or call my office at 740-393-5900 ext. 5902.

MVHS Key Club Tulip Project

MVHS Key Club students in the pictures above spent three hours on Saturday planting yellow tulips around the high school in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week and the National Mental Health Day. We are looking forward to the tulips blooming and showing new life in the Spring. This is a Key Club project to promote awareness and hope.

Breakfast is served at the MVHS Coffee Bar at 7:15 AM each school day, and students may enter through the upstairs entrance used by students that ride buses in the morning. Reminder that students can be dropped off in front of the high school and walk up between the two buildings to get breakfast in the morning. Lunch is served according to the student schedule.

Students are not allowed to access lockers between classes to allow for appropriate transition time and physical distancing in hallways.

End of the Quarter

Today is the end of the quarter (Oct. 19th). If you have any questions on a particular class for your student, please reach out to the classroom teacher.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is noted in Progressbook. Please read absence clarifications in comments as this has been an area of confusion. Reminder that attendance is recorded in hours. Conferences will be remote or face to face which will be worked out between the teacher and parent. Parents will not be able to do "drop-in" conferences. All parents must come in through the office entrance.

Arrival and Dismissal

Just a reminder that late arrival and early dismissal are privileges for our junior and senior students.
