Weekly Update
Dear Parents and carers,
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and were able to get out and about during some of the lovely weather we had!
We have welcomed our children back to School on both campuses and have settled back into School life well. There is much to celebrate this week so please do read the class celebrations below.
We have been working hard to complete full updates to all of our policies and procedures therefore in the coming months we will be giving you updates on the latest policies to review. These are all available to review on the school website https://www.sherwoodpark.org.uk/Policies/

Please come back to a member of senior leadership team with and questions and feedback. Please could those parents of children with medical needs familiarise themselves with this policy as there are changes to how we work with our nursing colleagues in the delivery of enteral feeds.
Upcoming events – save the date:
· Parent Information Event – 9th May 10:30-11:30am – Sherwood Hill Campus or virtual
This will be a coffee morning for parents of children on both campuses to hear from the head teacher and our chair of governors about changes within the governing body and the current direction of the school
· Parent Training Session – 19th May 11:00-12:00 – Sherwood Hill Campus
This session will be a session for parents of children on both campuses on shared reading & phonological awareness
A google form and letter will follow to book on to these sessions.
Local Carshalton Artist Maria Pia Jaime will be leading three community workshops for young people inspired by the interior decoration in St Mary’s Church, particularly the Arts & Crafts stencilled wall designs and William Morris organ screen. We have been asked to share details of the workshops available that some of the children may be interested in attending. Please see the flyers below for further information.

Class Celebrations
Hill Campus
Lavender has had a great first week back. This week we have been learning about celebration, and we have made red velvet birthday cakes in Life Skills. We celebrated the Queen's birthday by creating birthday cards and hosting afternoon tea. We have been developing our independence skills by using new domestic and electrical appliances. ''Star of The Week' goes to Louie for great focus during Independence lessons and excellent use of the washing machine. Well done, Louie! Have a lovely weekend.
A big welcome back to everyone this week! Lime class has settled really quickly back into school life and our routine and have especially enjoyed this lovely weather! We have been making the most of learning outside and have even built dens in which we have been doing some shared reading and relaxation. On Thursday we celebrated the queens birthday and enjoyed making crowns for ourselves to wear. Our celebration star this week is Ethan for sitting and attending for longer periods of time whilst also showing enjoyment. Well done everyone and have a lovely weekend!
Mint team have welcome all student's back into school after a long Easter break. Everyone was so happy to be back!!. We have started slowly but steady to get back into class routines. This term we will start with a new topic called 'Splish, splash, splosh' where we will learn about water though play and sensory stories.
This week Mint's start of the week is Dylan for sharing his space during group activities and actively communicating 'more' during snack time. Well done!!
This week Violet class have settled back into school very well. We have enjoyed looking at our new topic ‘the cycle of life’. We look forward to more outings during the summer term.
Indigo class have had a great week back. We have been enjoying the sunshine and learning about summer time and the beach. On Thursday we turned our classroom into a beach and the class loved relaxed in the water and the sand!
A special mention this week to Tony who went swimming with the class to Sherwood Park for the first time in over 2 years. Well done Tony for remaining regulated and playing so nicely with your friends. We are all very proud of you.
This week Lilac class have been focusing on regulation and have been doing an amazing job. We are also celebrated Frankie's 15th birthday with party food and cake. Happy birthday Frankie!
Iris class have been settling back in to school. We have started the topic of food and have been enjoying exploring fruit and vegetables.
We made pizza swirls this week which went down very well with our staff and students!
This week we'd like to say a well done to Ruby, she's been coming in to school jumping for joy and ready to learn!
All the students in Teal class were very happy to be back. They had big smiles and enjoyed their first week in school. We did have lots of fun learning outside and exploring our new topic 'What is down there?'. We started the topic by learning about the ocean and sea animals. We celebrated the Queen's Birthday this Thursday, students made beautiful crowns. Our star of the week is Zac for choosing to say hello to Oliver. Well done Zac!
Olive class have had a fun first week of the summer term. We have enjoyed being able to get outside and have completed lots of our activities in the sun! This term we are looking at habitats and working on our social communication through sensory play. All of our students have been stars this week! They have settled back into the routine of school quickly and have participated well in all activities, well done.
Capri class this half term's sensory story is ELMER the elephant and we are learning about colours and about elephants.
We have made some patchwork elephants which are already displayed on our wall.
James this week said the word 'MORE' clearly in his deep voice, this was a WOW! moment for all of us.
The whole class enjoyed the weather this week by having big bubbles in the playground and also some water play, we got very wet.

Park Campus
Hebe class have had a lovely first week back. We've all worked hard at getting back into routine following the Easter break. This term, in numeracy, we will be building on our knowledge of shapes, space and measure further and exploring one of our favourite books 'The tiger who came to tea' in greater sensory detail. We look forward to an exciting term ahead!
The Bluebell star of the week is Henry! Henry has been happy to come back to school after the Easter holidays and has been participating in all the lessons. He's shown off some super moves dancing and did really well participating in phonics finding the matching sounds. He was enthusiastic during our group games session and did some excellent typing on the computer. Additionally, he's been very good transitioning from one activity to the next.
Bamboo's star of the week is David, David has been exploring his immediate environment through his reaching and grasping. Bamboo is very proud of you David Orchid Class 'Star of the week' is Connor for using his voice to imitate new words and whole sentences. The star of the week in Poppy Class is Ty for excellent independent learning during maths and settling back into class really well after th Easter Break. This week Lottie has been out and about in the minibus to Bandon Hill primary school to have some stories read to her by the pupils there. She has also been to Sutton Central Library where some of our pupils’ artwork is being displayed (Freddie, Lara and Leland), and Leland has been shortlisted for a possible prize!
Tulip class have all shown brilliant responses to being back in school with lots of smiles and laughs. They particularly enjoyed using the trampoline again and our star of the week is Liam for showing his positive reactions, requesting more and maintaining his sitting balance whilst bouncing up and down.
This week in Marigold we have been settling back in to our class, we have had a lovely day going to Asda to get our shopping ingredients. We would like to celebrate Mila this week for having a Successful shopping trip to Asda and for the first time did not grab from the shelves and was interacting and talking about her environment well done!
The superstar of the week in Sycamore goes to Danny for settling in beautifully in his new class! Welcome to Sycamore class Danny!
Our star of the week in lily class this week is Frankie, Frankie showed fantastic interaction with one of his peers in Sam's Space, He was rolling on the big ball alongside his peer and was laughing and showing awareness of his peer playing beside him.

James Woolerton is the therapy star of the week for spontaneously verbalising ‘more’ to request a snack.

This week Therapy would like to nominate David as Therapy Star of the week. David has made great progress with his hands, working really hard in his physio sessions and been a star all round working on his communication!
