DELRAN HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.

A Message from Mr. Finkle!

Hello DHS Community!

I hope that everyone had a nice couple of weeks! Tomorrow marks the end of the third marking period. Grades will be posted on the portal next Thursday. We only have one day to run honor roll and to send out the grades, so we hope to get them out on Thursday as well. If not, we will send them out after Spring Break.

This Saturday is the Freshman/Sophomore Formal. The event begins at 7:00 and runs until 10:00. Students MUST be in by 8:00 and no one can leave until 9:30. Students must bring their IDs with them for entry.

Next week,...

There will be a PTA meeting on Tuesday evening, April 4th at 7:00 in the DHS Media Center.

Wednesday, April 5th we will be giving the ASVAB test for all Juniors who do not have qualifying scores on the PSATs over the past two years. The New Jersey Department of Education has a testing requirement for graduation and although the Class of 2024 sat for the NJGPA a couple of weeks back, we will not have those scores until early July. To that end, we would rather students go into the summer having satisfied the requirement, rather than having it hang over their heads. The ASVAB is an alternate test that the state accepts to fulfill the requirement. If your child is testing, a letter was sent home earlier this week and you should receive it soon if you have not already done so.

Wednesday evening, April 5th the guidance department is also hosting our College Planning Night. This evening focuses primarily on Juniors and what they should begin to do to prepare for the application process. It is certainly open to all parents and is very informative! Should you have any questions, please reach out to your child's counselor for details.

Spring Break begins next Friday, April 7th. We will return to school on April 17th. Please enjoy your week!!!

The week we return, Quill and Scroll will host their induction on April 20th at 7:00 PM in the Media Center.

At last week's BOE meeting, changes in the school calendar were approved. Since we have not used any snow days, two additional days have been given as vacation days! These will be May 26th and May 30th, giving everyone a 5-day Memorial Day break.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break and I will communicate again upon our return.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.

Student of the Month - February 2023

Big picture

Bryan Anderson

Nominated by: Megan Poulson and Meghan Laster

Megan Poulson writes:

I recommend Bryan to be student of the month because of how tremendously he has grown over the course of the school year. Bryan began the school year unmotivated and it was an effort to engage him in activities and with peers. As the school year has gone on I have seen such a positive change in his attitude and work ethic. It is amazing to see him now smiling, trying, and caring about his time here at DHS. Not only has he grown socially but academically as well. Bryan's grades have continued to rise throughout the year. I see a bright future ahead of him and am proud of how far he has come.

Meghan Laster writes:

Bryan has made tremendous growth in displayed confidence as well as his ability to handle some complex social situations.

Exploring In-State College Options

Choosing to attend an in-state college or university offers many benefits and often lowers the cost of attendance for students. The Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESSA) publishes an annual directory of all New Jersey higher education options. Hard copies of this publication are available for pick up in the Guidance Office. An electronic version can be found here.

Prospective College Athletes

Delran High School is proud of its athletic traditions and success. Students hoping to incorporate athletics in their college search should familiarize themselves with the NCAA’s eligibility requirements and recruiting protocols.

The NCAA’s Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete is a great resource. In addition, the NCAA will be hosting a webinar for prospective college-bound athletes and their families on April 30th from 6:30-7:30 pm. A QR code for registration can be found here.

Community Service Project

June 1 is the deadline for students in the Class of 2024 to submit their required community service hour log and reflection. Submission details are available here.

SPECTATOR’S CODE (Family & Friends)

The larger school community has an interest and investment in the success of our Athletic Program. These adults play a key role in reinforcing the educational goals of our program. Therefore, we expect these important program supporters to do the following:

· Be a positive role model through their behavior at athletic contests.

· Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators, and support groups.

· Be respectful of all officials’ decisions.

· Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.

· Praise student-athletes in their attempt to improve themselves as students, as athletes, and as people.

· Gain an understanding and appreciation for the rules of the sport.

· Reinforce our alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-free policies by refraining from the use of any such substances before and during athletic contests.

· Remember that admission to a school athletic event is a privilege to observe the contest.
